Job Details Under general direction of an Engineering Project Director, the Engineering Project Manager is responsible for one or more components of an overall project. Projects relate to the design, build, and improvement of distribution facilities and processes. Assignments may span one or more projects that can range in size, complexity, and cross‑functional involvement. Typical scope of management ranges from less than $1MM to greater than $20MM per project.
This is a remote based role in the United States. The successful candidate must be willing to travel up to 75% of the time.
Responsibilities
Work closely with Project Director to assist in the development of a project charter outlining project design and/or implementation requirements.
Assist in the preparation of capital expenditure requests for projects.
Manage assigned scope according to the project charter.
Project elements may include material handling equipment, warehouse, and business systems, building construction or modification and other equipment and services typically found within a distribution environment.
Scope may include design, contractor coordination, testing, training, and start‑up activities.
May be assigned multiple areas of scope and overall responsibility for a project.
Manage assigned team members in the execution of the assigned scope.
Manage and report on project budget for assigned scope.
Issue or approve purchase orders according to company policy.
Develop, maintain, and report on timelines for assigned scope.
Coordinate cross‑functional activities with internal teams and vendors. Generate timely and concise communication regarding project status and pending issues.
Support supplier specification development, RFPs, contractual negotiations, and execution of contract plans.
Engage external consultants and outsourced resources that perform work associated with the assigned project scope.
Ensure alignment with Project Director and other internal project teams.
Travel up to 75% of the time.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Education
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Operations, Business Administration, or a related field.
Master’s degree and/or PMP certification desired.
Experience
Experience managing automation or construction projects exceeding $5MM per project.
Experience leading cross‑functional teams.
Experience planning and tracking projects using project management software.
Experience developing and tracking project costs; 7+ years of experience as a project manager, project engineer or related occupation.
Prior consulting, Six‑Sigma, Lean Manufacturing or Kaizen experience is beneficial.
Knowledge of warehouse operations, design, and systems, and process improvement and standardization.
Effective oral and written communication; ability to work with diverse technical and business backgrounds.
Dynamic leadership and team energization to apply new skills and techniques to respond to business needs.
Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem‑solving skills.
Skills
General knowledge of warehouse operations, design, and systems.
General knowledge of automated material handling equipment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint and AutoCAD.
Effective oral and written communication.
