Position Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior IT Accessibility Specialist (Application Developer I) for the Office of Information Technology. This position will report to the Associate Director, IT Accessibility, and will work closely with IT procurement, Rutgers Access and Disability Resources, and unit level IT purchasers. The Senior IT Accessibility Specialist (Application Developer I) is responsible for reviewing information technology procurement contracts and other projects with accessibility implications.

Key Duties

Ensures information technology and accessibility standards are met and that contract terms further the University's interests.

Ensures contracts are in compliance with appropriate laws, regulations, and University policies/procedures.

Provides training and outreach, assist in the development of a risk‑based approach to contract review, and develop associated assessment tools and other resources.

Works with IT staff in schools, colleges, and departments on the selection and use of hardware and software assistive technologies.

Creates awareness around IT accessibility and disability issues related to IT systems and processes.

Develops and delivers training to members of the University community relating to product and service accessibility.

Serves as a resource for the campus community on IT disability issues and will conduct educational events to improve the University community's understanding of disability issues and will have an obligation to advance compliance.

Reviews University IT assets, such as sites, systems, and applications for accessibility issues and recommend remediations, to provide a more accessible and inclusive experience.

Provides first and second level end‑user accessibility support, including the facilitation of the University's accessibility barrier reporting.

Performs accessibility testing, reviews vendor documentation, and makes recommendations on potential information technology purchases.

Develops and delivers training workshops and educational programs to increase awareness of accessibility within the University community.

Understands and adheres to Rutgers compliance standards as they appear in RBHS' Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.

Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers' regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in related field, plus three (3) years of experience in the field of accessibility.

Equipment Utilized

Knowledge and experience with web content management systems (Wordpress, Drupal, and Joomla).

Knowledge and experience with assistive technologies (JAWS, VoiceOver, Dragon NaturallySpeaking).

Experience with web accessibility testing tools like Deque AXE Monitor, Compliance Sheriff, etc.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Standing, sitting, walking, talking or hearing.

Visual acuity to perform activities such as: viewing a computer terminal, reading, analyzing written information/data, etc.

Office environment.

Moderate noise.
