Summary/Objective: The Sheet Metal Shop – Lead will be responsible for the overall manufacturing process in their assigned area as well as monitoring of quality and output yields for their specific area. The Production Lead will assist the Shop Manager in the ongoing training, development, and accountability of all team members. The Sheet Metal Shop – Lead, sets the example for the specific area and supports the Shop Manager with cultivating high functioning teams.
Essential Functions:
Fabricates assembles, alters, welds and repairs of sheet metal products and equipment using MIG & TIG welding methods on galvanized, stainless, aluminum, and carbon steel. (e.g., ductwork and hoods for HVAC systems) utilizing blueprints, drawings and work orders.
Uses power tools such as, but not limited to grinders, files, and scrapers to prep materials for welding and cleaning after welding
Assembles and welds a variety of sheet metal ductwork systems and other non‑structural welding tasks
Gathers material required for performance of work.
Operates equipment and trains team members on usage and safe operating procedures
Directs and assigns work to employees within their specific area as needed to reach production goals
Leads, guides, motivates and communicates to employees within their specific area professionally and competently
Provides training and development to new and existing employees to cultivate high performing teams
Assists manager in holding employees accountable for attendance, performance, productivity and teamwork. Ensures that the quality of the production is maintained throughout the work day
Notifies Supervisor of any equipment malfunctions or problems that are impeding production.
Ensures that all safety related concerns are communicated and addressed
Ensures all employees are operating equipment according to procedures while following appropriate safety measures
Keeps area clean and organized at all times
Communicates any performance concerns to shop manager
Performs other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility:

Required:
5+ years of experience in sheet metal production; or equivalent combination of vocational training and experience (preferably in a shop leadership role)
Knowledge of shop equipment such as, but not limited to plasma cutting tables; coil line, power shears; notchers; brakes; rollers; lock‑formers; cleat benders; punches; pins potters; spiral equipment; insulation cutters; insulation adhesive applicators; saws; hand tools; and drill presses to cut, form, punch, spiral machinery, insulate, seal, and assemble sheet metal in a safe manor
2+ years' experience using MIG and TIG welding techniques or equivalent combination of vocational training and experience
Must be able to pass a horizontal and overhead weld test
Ability to learn functionality of process equipment
Must have strong communication and leadership skills
Must be able to multi‑task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail and demonstrate problem‑solving skills
Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
Must be available, and have the means to report to multiple job sites as assigned, to include working varying schedules that may require extended hours (evenings, weekends and holidays) and require client‑specific safety standards
Work Environment:
May work in varying temperatures; both inside and outside, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold and dampness
May work in areas with exposure to moderate/high noise levels
May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including dust
May be required to work in confined spaces or from high heights
Physical Demands:
This role routinely uses construction equipment such as heavy machinery, hand and power tools.
While performing duties of the job the employee may work aloft, climb, bend, pull, reach overhead, stand/walk for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.
Frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms
Must be able to correctly identify all colors of a color‑coded cable/wires and see close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus
Travel:
May require travel (typically not overnight)
Preferred:
Prior military experience a plus
HS diploma or GED equivalent
