Responsibilities
Diagnose construction equipment repair needs and perform designated repairs on customer or company-owned machines.
Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair of packaging and production machines.
Conduct preventive maintenance and general machine upkeep.
Use diagnostic laptop computers, gauges and instruments to detect faults in electronics, hydraulics, powertrain, engines and general machine performance.
Disassemble and assemble machine components to manufacturer’s specifications using hand and pneumatic tools.
Occasionally use basic welding equipment. Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
Research repair needs and order parts as needed.
Load or unload equipment or components from customer‑owned or common‑carrier vehicles.
Comply with OSHA safety and health rules.
Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school education or GED equivalent required; technical, vocational or trade school education also required.
Two to five years of experience troubleshooting and repairing heavy equipment, Caterpillar preferred.
Experience diagnosing equipment using laptop computers, gauges and instruments.
Knowledge of heavy equipment, mining equipment, engines and components.
Knowledge of basic tools and basic welding skills.
Journeyman status preferred.
Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
Strong problem‑solving, mechanical aptitude, communication, math, science and English skills.
Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office desired.
MSHA certified, or ability to obtain MSHA certification.

Physical Requirements In addition to the ability to sit, stand, walk, read, talk, write and hear, the essential functions of this job require occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 75 pounds. The position may involve long periods of standing, periodic exposure to seasonal heat and cold, working with oils and greases, noise, shift work (1st and 2nd), working outdoors, stooping, bending, squatting or working in a prone position.
