Core Responsibilities Supervise and actively participate in the crew performing daily traffic control and maintenance tasks, ensuring that all work is carried out safely and efficiently.
Safety
– Determine and demonstrate proper work‑site protection techniques, ensure crew has personal protective equipment, maintain knowledge of safety rules and regulations, and train crew members in safety methods. Promote safety as a top priority and continuously monitor work sites to maintain safety.
Preventative Maintenance
– Lead or perform equipment repair, replacement, and preventative maintenance checks; complete or supervise pre‑trip inspections of vehicles and equipment.
Manual Labor
– Perform manual labor and maintenance tasks as needed, completing assigned work within established time frames.
Leadership
– Receive general direction, exercise supervision, coordinate outside contractors, train staff in procedures, and implement standards.
Equipment Operation
– Operate all equipment safely, perform complex tasks, and handle emergency response activities.
Traffic Control
– Provide traffic control support, install and remove traffic signs, and flag traffic for effective work zones.
Lead, direct, train, and provide technical guidance to laborers; plan work schedules and allocate manpower, materials, and equipment.
Technical Skills
Knowledge of safety policies, procedures, and programs related to roadway construction and maintenance.
Plan, organize, and supervise equipment and materials for traffic control.
Monitor operations, recommend improvements, and prepare reports.
Prepare and inspect contract work for compliance with policies and quality standards.
Interpret and advise staff on laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Operate light, medium, and heavy‑duty trucks and equipment, as well as hand‑held and power tools.
Complete reports and records.
Perform heavy manual labor and use hand and power tools.
Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Basic knowledge of inventory procedures.
Computer and software application skills.
Interpret and apply work zone safety and traffic control manuals.
Physical Requirements
Constant physical effort, including standing for extended periods during an eight‑hour shift.
Vision sufficient to read diagrams, reports, and plans.
Hearing sufficient for conversations and radio/telephone communication.
Manual dexterity to operate tools and computer keyboards.
Lift and carry at least 50 pounds frequently, and up to 90 pounds at times.
Maintain alertness to concurrent activities on construction sites.
Walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground under varying weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Current valid FDOT MOT/TTC Advanced Certification and Florida Advanced Training for Worksite Traffic Supervisor certification.
4–5 years of experience as an MOT Foreman/Crew Leader, with at least two years at a lead level or equivalent.
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history (clean driving record required).
Negative drug test and continued random drug testing as a condition of employment.
Acceptable criminal background check.
Team player with a positive attitude.
