Job Summary And Qualifications The Stroke Coordinator delivers nursing and collaborative medical aspects of care to specific populations within the scope and standards of practice set by the American Nurses Association. The Stroke Coordinator collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to review the plan of care and intervene when necessary to ensure adequate delivery of quality health care in a cost‑effective way. Utilizing baccalaureate‑prepared nursing knowledge of pathophysiology and pharmacology, the Stroke Coordinator exercises nursing judgment in patient assessment, and assists neurologists and hospitalists with diagnosis and initiation of certain delegated medical processes and procedures. The ultimate goal of the Stroke Coordinator is to improve continuity of patient care and facilitate patient flow throughout the health care continuum. The Stroke Coordinator provides leadership through planning, organizing, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating the care provided for patients. The Stroke Coordinator actively participates in program development for the stroke and neurovascular service line in collaboration with and, under the direction of the Cardiology Director and Stroke Medical Director.

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Current licensure in the State of Colorado as a Registered Nurse, or current active multistate Registered Nurse license. Current BLS Certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Current advanced certification preferred.

Education:

Completion of an accredited program for Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) required.

Experience:

Two (2) years’ experience in neurology, critical care or internal medicine.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Performs independent nursing assessments but works interdependently with the physician. Demonstrates an advanced level of expertise by incorporating critical thinking nursing practice. The Stroke Coordinator is accountable for his/her actions. Provides safe and appropriate patient care within the Standards of Practice at RMC. Displays appropriate judgment and problem‑solving skills. Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers. Demonstrates an ability to assume a leadership role with the health care team in planning and in the delivery of patient care.
