Restaurant General Manager Join Potbelly Sandwich Works as a Restaurant General Manager.

Salary: Earn up to $65,000 plus bonuses.

Location: Field, in Shop. Travel requirements: Rarely. Reports to District Manager. Full-time, Exempt.

General Description The GM is the leader of the Potbelly shop, bringing positive energy daily to build and inspire teams and create a fun environment for customers.

They must see the big picture of running the business, coach and develop people, execute outstanding product quality and customer service, and build sales while controlling costs for each shift.

Essential Functions The GM must multi‑task and follow Potbelly standard operating policies and procedures with essential focus areas including:

People: select and hire great employees that represent Potbelly values; train and develop all staff; assess abilities and create development plans; reduce turnover; delegate tasks and hold team accountable; build relationships and communicate goals; provide performance appraisals; enforce personnel policies and labor laws; administer employee benefits and payroll.

Customers: keep customers happy; handle complaints; measure satisfaction and improve it; maintain a clean, inviting shop; enforce cleanliness, maintenance, security standards; ensure product quality, safety and sanitation; provide fast, friendly and accurate service; continuously improve feedback program scores.

Sales: increase comp sales and deliver budgeted sales; create marketing plans; lead local shop marketing; be involved in community activities; develop shop plan to improve business.

Profits: control cost of goods, variances and inventory; schedule appropriately to control labor costs; ensure proper cash handling and deposit procedures; maintain inventory and ordering systems; use financial reports to improve flow‑through.

At least 2 years as a General Manager in a restaurant or retail environment with P&L responsibility; restaurant industry preferred.

High School degree; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Manage a fast‑paced, high‑volume, clean, customer‑focused restaurant.

Open availability.

Must complete Food Safety Certification: Illinois Dept. of Public Health for Illinois, or National Restaurant Association ServSafe, National Registry of Food Safety Professionals, or National Environmental Health Association in other states; failure to pass after two attempts disqualifies from Shift Leader or Management roles.

Must comprehend and communicate in English verbally and written.

Must spend 80‑90% of time on the shop floor.

Financial literacy to understand financial reports.

Strong time‑management, ability to multi‑task, prioritize, and organize.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to select, develop, inspire and manage teams.
