Job Overview This field‑based role requires working in open environments with extremes of heat and cold, often near high voltage or chemicals. The position involves frequent callouts for field operations and emergency response.
Job Responsibilities
Performs maintenance, upkeep, and cleaning of station, pipeline, and terminal facilities, including preventative maintenance and major/minor repairs on valves, engines, motors, mixers, piping, control panels, fencing, office, shop, and storage buildings associated with tanks, pipelines, trucking, barge, and ship terminals.
Performs routine scheduled and non‑scheduled equipment maintenance with assistance or guidance from other maintenance personnel.
Services and lubricates all mechanical equipment such as tank mixers, pumps, motors, valves, etc.
Performs lockouts on company facilities.
Conducts required preventative maintenance tasks on positive displacement pumps referencing vendor manual guidelines (e.g., change gear lubes, check rod clearances, adjust clearances where applicable, determine replacement or repair of parts, maintain fluid end packing and rods as required).
Conducts required preventative maintenance tasks on centrifugal pumps referencing vendor manuals (e.g., check and change oil, monitor bearings and oil temperatures, maintain coupling alignment records, monitor and repair mechanical seals, perform major repairs to pump bearings and rotating elements).
Conducts required preventative maintenance tasks on small engine drive pumps referencing vendor manuals (e.g., change oil and lubricate, check and maintain ignition and fuel systems, determine need for major/minor repairs such as cylinder head or electrical system, and major overhaul when required).
Maintains tank mixers (service and lubricate gearboxes; determine need for major/minor repairs such as mechanical seal, shaft wear, overhaul when required).
Conducts valve maintenance (perform regulatory inspections, periodic maintenance as required by manufacturer, perform basic maintenance functions as needed).
Installs and maintains process piping per engineering requirements.
Assists in ensuring operating equipment inspections are performed and records are maintained within CMMS Maximo.
Demonstrates safe work practices following Plains’ safety policies and procedures.
Accountable to inform senior personnel of hazard identification and near misses.
Assists with any other pipeline‑related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required
High school diploma or equivalent.
Enrolled in or have completed the first year of a related trades apprenticeship program.
Relevant work experience preferred.
Ability to speak, read, and write English and perform basic math.
Ability to read and interpret facility drawings, technical schematics, and operational and service manuals.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills for a team‑based environment.
Ability to troubleshoot and make mechanical repairs to company equipment.
Working knowledge of precision measurement instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and alignment devices.
Good computer skills, experience using Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and CMMS Maximo.
Familiarity with federal, provincial, and industry regulations and Plains operating procedures.
O.Q. qualified to perform all Level I tasks.
Outstanding safety record.
Successfully complete Haz‑Mat training, DOT operator qualifications, and mandatory safety training.
Require moderate to heavy physically demanding working conditions, outdoors in extremes of heat and cold. Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Valid driver’s license with clean abstract.
Cleared criminal history and satisfactory reference checks.
Compliance with drug and alcohol policy including pre‑employment screening.
Position not eligible for immigration sponsorship; applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. for the duration of employment.
