Position Overview The Water Department Supervisor is a working supervisor, accountable for the performance of the whole department. The purpose of this position is to lead, manage, mentor, and develop employees to actively support and uphold the Tribe’s mission and values. Coordinate the installation, maintenance, and repair of the water distribution, wastewater collection, and stormwater collection system assets.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Water and Sewer Supervisor will be responsible for preventative maintenance and the operation of the water and sewer system on the Chemehuevi Indian Reservation and will oversee all department employees.
Plan, organize, and supervise the operation, maintenance, and repair of water mains, water valves, fire hydrants, water service lines, and meter valves.
Plan, organize, and supervise the operation, maintenance, and repair of wastewater collection system pipelines, sewer line inspections, reclaimed water lines, lift stations, and odor and corrosion control.
Create, track, schedule, and assign work based on the water/wastewater system needs.
Provide proactive performance planning, establish and discuss job responsibilities, performance expectations, and performance goals with department staff.
Review organizational goals and objectives, evaluate operations and activities, and recommend improvements and modifications.
Produce written documents that meet management expectations for quality; review and approve final reports; ensure reports are distributed to appropriate organizations and customers.
Monitor the water system to meet the USEPA Safe Drinking Water Act requirements and Tribal guidelines.
Maintains inventory supplies needed to keep all water and sewer systems in proper working order at all times.
This position requires 24-hour standby.
Provides day-to-day supervision of all Water/Sewer Department staff.
Qualifications
Must be experienced with domestic water and sewerage operations.
Required: Water Distribution and/or Wastewater Collection Grade 1 or be able to acquire within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Water Distribution and/or Wastewater Collection Grade 2.
Preferred knowledge of Federal Safe Drinking Water Act Regulations.
Must have experience with light gasoline and diesel motor repairs and basic mechanical knowledge and ability.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Evaluates Department operations, recommends changes, and implements the recommended changes as directed by the Tribal Administrator.
Recommends the Department budget needs to the Tribal Administrator.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Tribal Administrator.
Ability to produce monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports as well as the implementation of data collection.
Other Requirements
Submit to pre-employment drug testing.
Comply with Drug Free Workplace Policy.
Ability to attend monthly Council meetings.
Ability to attend evening and weekend meetings.
Ability to travel.
