Job Summary
Phlebotomist Floater under the direction of the area supervisor performs daily phlebotomy activities of the Patient Service Center (PSC) or In‑office Phlebotomy (IOP) accurately and on time. The floater assists with coverage of client locations as needed. Travel is required. The position involves interacting with clients, patients and other PathGroup personnel in a professional and courteous manner, handling forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing duties following established practices.
Essential Functions
Ready to travel to a client assignment within a designated region with short notice.
Greets customers appropriately and treats all customers courteously.
Ensures all field phlebotomy and PSC specimens are collected accurately and on time.
Collects specimens according to established procedures, explaining the processes clearly and calmly to reduce patient anxiety.
Disposes of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue, and contaminated sharps, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies.
Completes requisitions accurately and enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into the computer with high attention to detail.
Communicates with clients to confirm handwritten orders, verify tests ordered, and obtain accurate billing information.
Researches test/client information using the lab computer system and matches requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Labels, centrifuges, splits, freezes, and packages specimens for transport, maintaining required temperature controls.
Maintains required records, daily logs and assists with compilation of monthly statistics and data.
Performs basic clerical duties such as filing, faxing, and preparing mail; electronic data entry is required.
Approves time in attendance software by noon on the Monday following the end of the pay period and submits expense and travel logs as directed.
Adheres to dept. and company grooming and dress code policies, appearing neat and clean at all times.
Manages time effectively and remains adaptable to fluctuating patient flow.
Communicates courteous and professional behaviour to clients, patients, and co‑workers, promoting a harmonious work environment.
Answers the telephone friendly and helpfully, incorporating the company name and a helpful statement.
Performs duties independently while communicating pertinent information/issues to supervisor, manager or group leader for resolution.
Contributes to a positive work climate and team effort of the department and company.
Ensures facilities are neat, clean and in good repair, notifying the group leader or supervisor of required repairs or maintenance.
Assists with periodic inventory counts and reports shortages and problems to the group leader or supervisor.
Uses proper PPE to ensure patient and personal safety and adheres to lab safety precautions.
Executes all job responsibilities in alignment with best security practices to protect PHI and company data.
Abides by the Corporate Compliance Program, Corporate policies, and privacy and security policies.
