Utilizes x-ray equipment to produce images of the body for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases or injuries, while ensuring optimum patient care and safety.## Education & Experience**Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required:**
Medical Radiologic Technologist license from the Mississippi State Department of Health within the applicable time frame. Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association required post-hire within 90 days. Certification in at least two (2) of the primary modalities in Radiologic Technology (Including Radiography, Radiation Therapy, Mammography, Sonography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or Nuclear Medicine Technology) from the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, and/or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board.## Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**Knowledge of computerized tomography exam procedures. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, radiation physics and protection, and the principles of imaging. Skill in the use of imaging equipment. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Ability to comply with radiation protection practices. Ability to alleviate patient anxiety.
**Responsibilities*** Performs radiographic procedures to produce images of internal body organs and bones by operating a variety of imaging, monitoring, and other equipment and accessories.* Explains procedures to patient, obtains and records medical history relevant to the condition being viewed, selects appropriate equipment settings, and positions the patient in a manner to facilitate optimum imaging results.* Views images to determine technical quality, repeats if necessary, makes adjustments, makes copies as needed, and forwards for review and interpretation; maintains applicable patient documentation* Maintains adequate supplies and a clean work area; reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor.* Assumes responsibility for patient safety; provides physical and psychological comfort and age appropriate care following hospital policies and procedures to the patient.* Assists in overseeing in the radiation department during scheduled nights and weekend shifts.* Ensures compliance with workplace safety and environmental, exposure control, and/or infection control practices.* The duties listed are general in nature and are examples of the duties and responsibilities performed and are not meant to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.
