About Trial Library

Trial Library, Inc. is a venture‑backed startup founded in 2022 focused on accelerating enrollment and retention to clinical trials with an AI‑platform. We work with community oncology sites, patients, and industry partners to ensure that clinical research is accessible, navigable, and inclusive.

We are seeking an experienced Director, Infrastructure to own and scale our cloud infrastructure, security, compliance, and IT operations. You’ll be our first dedicated hire in this domain, reporting to the VP, Engineering and taking end‑to‑end ownership of the systems that keep our platform secure, reliable, and compliant.

This is a hands‑on leadership role. You’ll build the foundation: AWS infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, security controls, SOC‑2 and HIPAA compliance, asset management, and release processes, while establishing the practices and standards that will scale with the company. As we grow, you’ll build, develop, and lead a team in this area.

Our engineering team embodies our company culture: high trust and low politics, where fast decision‑making and open feedback are the norm. We foster a psychologically safe, collaborative environment where engineers are empowered to take action, speak up, and solve problems efficiently.

Your Responsibilities

Own cloud infrastructure : Design, maintain, and scale our AWS environment (Lambda, RDS, ECS, S3, etc.) with focus on security, reliability, and cost efficiency

Drive security and compliance : Maintain HIPAA and SOC‑2 compliance, work with auditors, respond to security questionnaires, and implement security best practices across the organization

Build and improve CI/CD : Own release management and deployment pipelines, improving reliability and reducing friction for the engineering team

Manage IT operations : Oversee asset management, device configuration (MDM), identity/access management, and onboarding/offboarding for ~50 employees

Implement monitoring and alerting : Establish observability practices to ensure system health and rapid incident response

Partner with engineering : Work closely with backend, frontend, and AI engineers to support their infrastructure needs and unblock technical challenges

Establish standards : Define and document infrastructure practices, security policies, and operational runbooks as the company scales

Build the team : As needs grow, hire, develop, and lead additional infrastructure and IT team members

Qualifications

Deep AWS experience : you’ve designed and operated production infrastructure across compute, networking, storage, and security services

Security and compliance background : hands‑on experience with SOC‑2, HIPAA, or similar frameworks; comfortable working with auditors and maintaining compliance programs

DevOps and CI/CD expertise : you’ve built and maintained deployment pipelines and release processes

IT operations experience : asset management, MDM, identity management, and supporting a distributed workforce

Startup mentality : comfortable wearing many hats, making pragmatic tradeoffs, and building from scratch

High autonomy : you figure things out independently, make decisions with incomplete information, and own outcomes

Strong communication : can translate technical concepts for non‑technical stakeholders and collaborate effectively across teams

Healthcare alignment : genuinely interested in improving clinical trial access and health equity

Nice to Have

Healthcare/regulated industry experience : prior work in HIPAA‑regulated environments or clinical data

Infrastructure as Code : Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar

Monitoring and observability tools : CloudWatch, Splunk, Datadog, or similar

Python scripting : for automation and tooling

Experience scaling infrastructure : from startup to growth stage
