SENIOR STAFF LEVEL ENVIRONMENTAL GEOLOGISTS, SCIENTISTS, & ENGINEERS (TORRANCE, CA)

Genesis Engineering & Redevelopment (GE&R) is a growing environmental consulting firm that provides a broad range of environmental services that include initial site evaluation and human health risk assessments, site investigation, remediation, and regulatory case closure, litigation support, and expert witness services.

We have an immediate opening for a Senior Staff Level position in Torrance, California office for a Senior Staff Level professional, specifically geologists, environmental scientists, and engineers with 3-5 years of experience.

We are a small and growing company with an employee and family focus. Because of our size, even entry level staff have open access to senior management. The company is designed to provide strong scientific services to our clients, with several Ph.D. hydrogeologists on staff. Our size also means that employees won’t be pigeonholed as all staff must fill a variety of roles in the company.

This is an on-site position with approximately 30% of your time spent in the field at our client’s facilities and 70% of your time spent in the office. Responsibilities of this position include:

Assisting the Project Manager as needed to develop the skills and experience necessary for project management.

Mentoring and training junior staff to collect high quality field data that are the basis for understanding contaminant transport and developing successful remedial strategies.

Analyzing historical site operations and environmental data to assist in strategy and settlement of litigation in which our clients are involved.

Developing investigation objectives and scopes of work to meet the objectives.

Preparing budget estimates and managing budgets under the direction of the Project Manager to ensure that deliverables are met within budget.

Preparing permits and coordinating with surveying, utility locating, drilling, and laboratory subcontractors before field activities begin so that they are conducted on time and within budget.

Managing large field projects under the direction of the Project Manager.

Performing field audits of junior staff data collection, health and safety procedures, and site management.

Performing QA/QC to ensure that the data are legally defensible.

Mentoring and training junior staff in preparing cross sections, contour maps, and other figures/graphs to interpret data, illustrate conceptual models, and develop effective remedial strategies.

Preparing and reviewing technical documents that meet company’s standards for quality and content.

Participating in meetings with the client, regulatory agencies, and legal counsel to assist in the development of strategies to remediate sites and obtain regulatory closure.

As needed during periods of high field workload, collecting soil, soil gas, indoor air, surface water and groundwater samples logging boreholes, and installing soil vapor probes and monitor wells.

Preferred qualifications for our Senior Staff level position include:

B.S. or M.S. in Geology/Hydrogeology, Environmental Sciences, and Civil, or Environmental Engineering.

Experience with soil and groundwater investigation and remediation projects.

Experience working on chlorinated solvents sites is desirable.

Field experience, including drilling, well/probe installation and soil, soil vapor, groundwater, and indoor air sampling.

Excellent writing and communication skills.

Computer skills including MS Word and Excel.

OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER safety training.

Professional work and scientific ethics.

Ability to travel overnight periodically to project sites.

Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment as well as independently.

Creative, reliable and motivated.
