Responsibilities

Operationalize and implement the corporate EHS strategy.

Coordinate, implement, and execute the safety programs for the site, including both personnel and process safety.

Assist the operations organization in identifying hazards, risks, controls, and barriers to ensure safe operations at the facility and conformance to regulatory, consensus, and voluntary standards (from Cal‑OSHA to ISO). Provide professional guidance to anticipate, identify, evaluate, and isolate safety hazards and risks of all types.

Provide professional advice on best practices and methods for specific hazard management and control, and barrier maintenance for site hazard reviews, such as JSA/JHA, HAZOP, FMEA, etc. and all change reviews (MOC).

Analyze EHS training needs then design, deliver, and evaluate the effectiveness of EHS training, including developing and maintaining training matrix and calendar, approving content of training programs, ensuring trainers are qualified, and regularly reviewing training materials and results.

Conduct regular inspections and audits of EHS programs at the facility to measure conformance/compliance and ensure minimization of risk.

Perform or coordinate industrial hygiene/ergonomics evaluations. Interpret and analyze the results of the studies and evaluations, recommend corrections as implicated in study results.

Identify, select, and monitor key performance indicators for the EHS program. Work with facility management and corporate governing teams to establish strategic goals by gathering/reviewing safety, environment, and operations information.

Operationalize and provide information to Mitsubishi Chemical America and other affiliates about regulations, plan and advise on compliance for risk elimination or mitigation, and liaise with affiliates as required.

Ensure complete and accurate maintenance of EHS records to document compliance and conformance to EHS standards and expectations, including creating and updating work instructions, SOPs, forms, and logs.

Administrate the site investigation program for accidents/incidents, providing guidance, developing metrics, analyzing incident data to identify trends, reporting data clearly and concisely, and assisting operations to meet obligations on time.

Ensure the Emergency Response team can respond to any process or personnel emergency as defined in the site response plan.

Maintain close communication with operational managers and supervisors to investigate and troubleshoot EHS problems and opportunities for improvement, advising on budgeting and cost considerations for operational and improvement/capital items.

Exhibit exemplary conduct in dealing with other employees and outside contacts, contributing to a healthy, positive, and safe environment and promoting the team culture.

May be assigned and be expected to perform relevant related duties as required by management.

Follow safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe work environment.

Qualifications Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in physical science, engineering, occupational health, and safety, or related field (or High School Diploma/GED plus 5 years directly related experience).

3 to 7 years of manufacturing experience in a safety role with progressing responsibility and demonstrated ability to work independently.

Industry knowledge in chemical manufacturing, heavy manufacturing, pharmaceutical, energy, semiconductor, or other processing industries.

Knowledge & Technical Skills

Proficient in MS Office applications.

Extensive knowledge of OSHA, Cal OSHA, EPA/CUPA and process safety regulations in California.

Demonstrated familiarity with a broad range of OHS concepts and depth in certain hazard areas.

Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem‑solving skills; ability to justify and prioritize solutions considering OHS principles, legal, industry and organizational factors.

Excellent written and oral communication, negotiation, conflict management, mentoring, and engagement skills.

Ability to prepare reports and present technical information to various audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

Safety certification such as SMS, OHST, CIT, ASP, CSP, etc.

Knowledge of process safety management.

Experience in manufacturing industry (plus).
