as a Lead Enterprise Infrastructure Engineer.
The Team You Will Join The Container Platform Team supports Container Platforms, primarily OpenShift Container Platform, hosting a fleet of Kubernetes clusters with multitenancy and hybrid considerations. The team proactively assesses overall system health, performance, and incident trends, and develops automation to support self-serviceability, system resilience, and stability using Site Reliability Engineering principles.
Opportunity This role advances cloud‑native technologies aligned to MetLife’s on‑premises and regulatory strategy. The position supports multiple countries and is responsible for designing and maintaining the OpenShift Platform standards globally. It involves working with diverse application frameworks across platforms, physical/virtual environments, and various cloud providers, hypervisors, OS, network, storage, and database servers. The role supports critical 24/7 Service Delivery in an Agile DevOps team, requiring understanding of ITSM processes, operations data, and real‑time visibility.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate to achieve actionable results and build sustainable relationships across all levels of the organization.
Maintain expertise in OpenShift, Kubernetes distributions, and Docker.
Lead coordination, checking, and application of critical OpenShift/Kubernetes patches.
Apply CI/CD methodology and tooling (AzDo, Git, Tekton).
Manage the container platform ecosystem: installation, upgrade, patching, and monitoring.
Operate with a reliability‑management mindset and troubleshoot complex incidents.
Lead projects and provide technical expertise for product and technology integration.
Participate in incident analysis and provide root‑cause updates to management.
Serve as SME on enterprise‑wide projects and promote an automation‑first mindset.
Collaborate with Global Technology to ensure infrastructure stability and performance.
Develop relationships with industry partners and vendors regarding product direction and enhancements.
Participate in evaluation of new and existing software products and integrations.
Work rotational shifts and, if necessary, provide on‑call support.
Provide technical guidance and mentor team members.
Manage service levels with the managed service provider.
Required Skills
5+ years of experience as an infrastructure engineer.
Good working knowledge of infrastructure‑as‑code tools such as Ansible.
Python and shell scripting experience.
Experience with Kubernetes distributions, containerization, Linux/UNIX technologies.
Proven experience supporting distributed applications in the cloud (Azure, AWS, GCP).
Preferred Skills
Container runtimes (Podman/Docker), Kubernetes orchestration, Terraform, Go, and/or microservices architecture.
Experience administering OpenShift.
Understanding of SRE principles and continuous learning.
Experience with on‑premises cloud platforms.
Proficiency with Git, AzDo, Tekton, and version control tools.
Knowledge of observability/monitoring tools such as Grafana, ELK, AppDynamics, or Zenoss.
Excellent oral and written communication for technical and non‑technical audiences.
Ability to establish relationships and influence colleagues at all levels.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field, or ten years of equivalent experience.
Location & Availability This hybrid role requires a minimum of three days per week in the office.
Compensation Salary range: $110,000 – $160,000. The role may also be eligible for annual short‑term incentive compensation. All incentives and benefits are subject to applicable plan terms.
