Department Provost Research Computing Center
About The Department The University of Chicago Research Computing Center (RCC), a unit in the Office of Research, provides high-end research computing resources to researchers at the University of Chicago. It is dedicated to enabling research by providing access to centrally managed High-Performance Computing (HPC), storage, and visualization resources. These resources include hardware, software, high-level scientific and technical user support, and the education and training required to help researchers make full use of modern HPC technology and local and national supercomputing resources. The Office of Research oversees the conduct of sponsored research, research program development, and contract management functions.
Job Summary Reporting to the Director of Administration and Faculty Programs, the Business and Programs Administrator is a key team member who advances the Research Computing Center (RCC) mission by providing high quality support for the Center’s flagship programs. This role supports the growing and varied faculty service programs and manages core business operations, including robust recharge/service center operations. The position performs routine assignments related to academic, research, clinical or administrative programs. This hybrid position requires at least three days onsite per week.
Responsibilities
Respond promptly to faculty and researcher inquiries about RCC programs and services, providing relevant information or connecting them with appropriate RCC staff.
Prepare and process paperwork for financial transactions, partnerships, HR, and other RCC programs, ensuring thorough documentation in relevant systems.
Oversee high-volume, complex recharge/service center billing, reporting, and related financial operations.
Review contracts and vendor statements of work as needed; maintain updated non-disclosure agreements.
Plan and support committee meetings, including preparing materials and recording minutes.
Proactively suggest and implement process improvements for RCC business operations.
Serve as backup for RCC’s administrative assistant and department coordinator.
Research and analyze data to prepare diverse reports, including those for grants and contracts.
Perform routine and complex assignments for the unit usually in the areas of finance, event planning, or support services. Initiate the hiring process of students and staff for the unit, which includes processing of payroll.
Research and analyze data to create reports and may create other reports for grants and contracts.
Analyze program budgets and use a moderate/high level of authority to recommend or make budgetary recommendations.
Interact with faculty, researchers and staff for committee work or information.
Perform other related work as needed.
Education Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
Work Experience Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through
Technical Skills Or Knowledge
Proficient with Oracle.
Proficient with Workday.
Preferred Competencies
Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, effectively communicate in writing and orally.
Excellent organizational skills.
