Purpose The Warming Center’s guiding principle is to save lives during the harshest weather of the year by providing compassionate care for the most vulnerable residents of Hamden. The Warming Center is a critical program for people who are homeless and generally resistant to or not able to enter shelters.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Ability to manage, motivate and direct clients, with strong time management and organizational skills.
Preferred knowledge base of the delivery of residential services for the homeless population.
Awareness of mental health, substance abuse, and dual diagnosis issues.
Knowledge of the area network providers; computer literate; culturally competent.
Capacity to work within a team and promote teamwork.
General understanding of crisis intervention skills, confidentiality, boundaries, and universal precautions.
Able to foster a harm‑reduction philosophy within the work environment, with strong empathic skills.
Responsibilities
Attend all required Columbus House training and meetings.
Complete all required logs, incident reports, and daily rosters.
Supervise clients to ensure compliance with all Warming Center rules.
Assist in providing the security of the Warming Center site.
Adhere closely to scheduled shift start times and remain on duty until a replacement has arrived.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervised by: Director of Emergency Services
Pay Scale: $19.00 per hour
Work Schedules
Wednesday to Friday (2 positions): 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM
Per Diem (2 positions): As needed
Saturday to Tuesday (2 positions): 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM
Monday to Friday: 6:00 PM – 12:00 AM
Saturday to Sunday: 6:00 PM – 12:00 AM
Sunday – Thursday: 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM
Friday – Saturday: 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM
