Position Description The Department of Nutritional Sciences and Toxicology (NST) at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor faculty position in the broadly defined area of Environmental Impact on Human Metabolic Disease. The successful candidate will establish a robust research program investigating how environmental factors influence human metabolic disease. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: the effects of nutrient intake on obesity and related disorders or malnutrition; the impact of various environmental interactions (such as biophysical, behavioral, socio‑economic factors) on metabolic disorders; and the biological and molecular mechanisms that underlie these health effects, from molecular mediators to the regulation of metabolic fluxes or physiological processes. The position encourages and supports research programs with translational potential for human applications, aiming to improve interventions or public policy that reduce the adverse health impacts of contemporary metabolic disorders. Applicants who study model organisms that may have translational potential for human metabolic disorders are welcome. The role will also enhance the campus's strength in understanding the impacts of socioeconomic status on human health and welfare. NST offers a highly interactive environment with world‑class research in metabolic and nutritional biology, access to PhD students in multiple interdepartmental programs, state‑of‑the‑art core facilities, and opportunities for collaboration with UC Berkeley and the Bay Area. The appointee will contribute to undergraduate education and numerous interaction opportunities across the university. The Department embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion, and is committed to supporting faculty with family needs, dual‑career couples, single parents, and non‑traditional career paths.
