Assistant General Counsel

Responsibilities
Provide legal advice on AI and emerging technologies during research, development and design phases, ensuring legal compliance, and embedding IP and data protection from inception, supporting strategic alignment.
Advise on legal, ethical and reputational risks associated with new technology products, features and data uses, before and during development and design, ensuring alignment with KPMG's Trusted AI framework.
Offer guidance on complex AI‑enabled technology and data licensing arrangements involving technology developed by KPMG International entities, including developing licensing terms, end‑user terms of use, and the interpretation of membership documents for licensing and use of IP.
Support strategic global initiatives focused on IP, technology and commercial/non‑personal data, including acquisition, divestiture, development, licensing and sharing of IP and AI‑enabled technology.
Lead legal aspects of enterprise risk management for technology and data, including drafting policies, guidelines and contract templates, and staying updated on evolving global IP, technology and data privacy laws.
Assess whether KPMG International has proper IP and data rights to license and provide member firms and clients with access to technology solutions, including legal advice on artificial intelligence used by KPMG International.
Act with integrity, professionalism, and personal responsibility to uphold KPMG's respectful and courteous work environment.
Qualifications
Minimum eight years of recent experience advising on IP, technology and data law, with a strong understanding of AI models from technical, functional and legal perspectives.
Juris Doctor degree (or equivalent if gained outside the United States), admitted to the New York Bar with current registration in good standing (preferred) or ability to register as in‑house counsel with the New York Bar.
Advanced technical legal skills in the areas of IP and technology law, with a focus on the development, protection and enforcement of IP rights, particularly for patents, copyrightable software and trade secrets and those driven by the inherent risks in AI and the data used by AI.
Strong negotiation and drafting skills across a wide variety of technology, IP and data agreements and transaction structures across various jurisdictions, as well as addressing complex legal, business and technical issues.
Experience in managing complex cross‑border matters, driving solutions to complex issues, and working with diverse teams across multiple jurisdictions.
