Position Summary We have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Desktop Applications Engineer to join the firm’s expanding Technology department. The role involves defining key elements of our desktop architecture, establishing best practices, and promoting an optimal user experience. In addition, the position will be responsible for image management, application packaging and deployment, Citrix/VDI management, and serve as a key technical resource in projects/tasks associated with the end‑user PC environment. The role may be remote, but the successful candidate must reside in a state where the firm has a physical office.
Essential Functions
Help ensure end‑users have an optimal PC user experience
Support front‑line support groups with procedures and tools to reimage, troubleshoot the desktop environment, and manage PC‑environment related incidents, problems, and requests
Develop application packages for automated deployment
Manage virtual environments and VDI infrastructure
Help ensure the PC environment is stable with all other firm systems, coordinating work with other IT Department teams and other firm administrative departments as required
Assist in the inventory of software and PC hardware by developing inventory collection methods in conjunction with other owners of inventory assets
Be proactive in ensuring systems are performing and continue to perform at optimal levels
Provide expert knowledge in the Desktop environment, manage change control of the desktop environment, handle escalated incidents from the Helpdesk, and may require after‑hours, weekends, and holidays for emergencies and scheduled projects/tasks
Be available outside of scheduled work hours and respond during disasters or emergencies. Limited travel will be required.
Requirements
7+ years experience in a Desktop Engineering role in a Windows PC environment
Expert knowledge and experience with desktop imaging processes, methods for streamlining imaging and repairs, and systems to rollout images and applications, including updates, patches, and custom settings in the OS and published applications
Expert knowledge of desktop OS and applications such as Windows 11, Microsoft 365 (Office, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive), hardware driver, BIOS/firmware management
Expert knowledge and experience managing a Citrix Virtual Application and Desktop (DaaS/VDI) platform, including image management, packaging, and deployment in a virtual environment
Experience with packaging software using Admin Studio and InstallShield
Experience with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
Experience with Microsoft Intune (Windows devices, iOS and Android, Autopilot, configuration management) and Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM)
Experience managing user profiles and settings, utilizing tools like Microsoft Group Policy, Ivanti Environment Manager, USMT
Strong knowledge of VBScript, AutoIt, and PowerShell scripting languages
Knowledge of desktop security requirements, using tools such as Microsoft Defender, BitLocker, AppLocker, Windows ACLs
Knowledge of network and client infrastructure: backup strategies, server hardware, Microsoft server and client software, domain controller and GP management, login scripts, and network topology
Superior customer service/interpersonal skills, troubleshooting skills, and organizational and prioritizing skills
Excellent communication skills, clearly and concisely with firm employees, clients and vendors
Ability to work as a member of a team or independently; ability to self‑govern
Excellent sense of urgency and ability to triage incidents, problems, tasks, and projects quickly and efficiently
Law Firm or Legal Department experience preferred
Technical certifications such as A+, Network+, MCP, MCSA, MCSE preferred
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred
