What You Will Do The selected candidate will support our Systems Integrations department working on active class submarines, surface ships, and shore‑based communication facilities using various technical tools to install, upgrade, remove, and troubleshoot fiber optic cables and connectors while assisting with alterations and installations for fleet modernization on various contracts such as Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Naval Information Warfare Systems Command and Naval Surface Warfare Center. Responsibilities include interfacing with customers, managing subcontractors, providing work direction to others, and possibly leading multiple jobs. The role requires mastering specialty trade functions and tools, performing complicated and non‑routine tasks, developing technical documents (work packages, formal processes, procedures, test documents, reports, and trip reports), scheduling, reporting, and briefing customers and senior management, performing quality inspections, and executing duties outside of specialty as needed.
What You Must Have
High School education, or Trade School, or equivalent, and 8 years of related experience, including specific systems expertise. Must provide own hand tools as designated per trade specialty.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance and DBIDS base access.
Must have experience and certifications for installing, repairing, and troubleshooting fiber optic cables and multi‑pin connectors on Navy and other marine vessels in accordance with NAVSEA STD 009‑123 Fiber Optic and/or NAVSEA STD 009‑073 Multi‑pin Copper.
Must have fiber testing and fiber splicing experience.
Must have interferometer and blow fiber experience.
Bonus Points For
Experience in large NIWC/SPAWAR integrated installation contracts.
Experience in Shore C4I.
Preferred technical/professional certifications.
Preferred prior quality assurance certifications.
Preferred Shipyard Competent Person (SCP) certification.
Preferred prior AIT or active duty experience on current active class ships.
Preferred possession of a Secret clearance.
Preferred candidates possessing a current U.S. Travel passport.
Physical Requirements Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes (no less than 30 lbs). Able to work on and climb ladders, in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions, and in confined spaces. Duties may involve high heat, humidity, noise, dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels, and riding ships at sea for extended periods. Travel may be required within and outside the continental United States.
