Water Automation Team Leader

Garver is seeking a Water Automation Team Leader to drive the growth of our services supporting municipal utility and private sector clients through automation of control systems for a range of applications, including water supply, water treatment, water distribution, wastewater collection, wastewater treatment, water reuse, and industrial processes. The Water Automation Practice Area Team is a national resource team that focuses on implementation of automated control systems for municipal, private water, and industrial clients. Team activities include designing control systems, developing PLC programming logic and SCADA HMI graphics, working closely with Garver’s Water Design Center staff to coordinate project requirements, implementing PLC and SCADA HMI applications during commissioning, and troubleshooting technical issues related to instrumentation and automation control systems.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute a business and financial plan for Garver’s Water Automation Practice Area Team.
Collaborate closely with Garver’s regional Water Business Line teams on business development activities within the established footprint and future growth areas.
Collaborate closely with Garver’s Private Sector group on business development activities for private water and industrial clients across the nation.
Partner with Garver’s marketing and business development team to lead pursuit and capture efforts for top-line revenue-generating projects.
Oversee the hiring and growth of a Water Automation team to support execution of the business plan.
Provide leadership for project delivery with a strong focus on risk management and profitability.
Develop and maintain a strong relationship with Garver’s Water Design Center Electrical and Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) teams.
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Control Systems, or related field preferred; Master’s degree or MBA is a plus.
Registered Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
5+ years in leadership roles managing multi‑site or national teams comprised of in‑person and remote team members.
15–20 years of progressive technical experience in designing automation control systems, completing SCADA master plans, designing networks, developing PLC programming logic and SCADA HMI graphic screens, implementing PLC and SCADA HMI applications during system commissioning, troubleshooting technical issues related to instrumentation and automation control systems, leading automation projects, and team mentorship and growth.
Knowledge of industry standards and compliance, including ISA/IEC standards for HMI development, alarm management, and cybersecurity.
Knowledge of Industry 4.0 trends, predictive maintenance, and AI in automation.
Demonstrated ability to grow, manage, and mentor a Water Automation team.
Solid project management background, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, client coordination, and risk management.
Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.
Highly‑organized, self‑motivated, and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
Ability to lead innovation initiatives, including those related to smart water systems, energy optimization, and predictive maintenance.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook.
Deep knowledge of the following:
PLC platforms and their respective application development software, such as Allen‑Bradley Logix, Rockwell Automation Studio 5000 and Studio Designer, Rockwell Automation PlanPAX, Schneider Electric Modicon and SCADAPack, Schneider Electric Ecostruxure Control Expert, Allen‑Bradley PanelView, and Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk Machine EditionE; SCADA/HMI systems and their respective application development software, such as Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk View Site Edition, AVEVA Wonderware, Inductive Automation Ignition, Trihedral VTSCADA, and GE iFIX; Data historians and databases; Network infrastructure design, development, and cybersecurity for industrial control systems; Automation application development and implementation workflows, standards development, and object‑oriented programming strategies; Familiarity with IIOT, data analytics, and cloud integration; Strong background in application development methodologies for automation projects.
