What to Expect
At the intersection of Closures and Lighting, the Charge Port Door system at Tesla is one of the most innovative systems in the world. This is a pivotal role to act as an individual contributor to design and develop Charge Port Doors across all Tesla vehicles. You will work alongside the most creative and resourceful designers and engineers in the world on a lean and agile team. You will work with cross‑functional team members from concept definition at the industrial design and clay modeling phase, to prototype creation, production design release and launch. You will own the product design through all stages of the design cycle including continuous improvement of current models.
What You'll Do
Serve as a member of the Vehicle Engineering Team to support automotive development for Tesla vehicle product lines with a focus on Charge Port Door
Develop world‑class component and system‑level designs and contribute to the cross‑functional team consisting of Tesla design/styling, body, exteriors, low voltage electronics and manufacturing teams as well as with Tesla supply chain and suppliers
Support product launches and develop and implement improvements to the functionality of components
Support manufacturing processes, material selections, optimize designs with appropriate analytical and physical assessments
Interpret CAE simulation results and integrate recommendations into product designs
What You'll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Mechatronics, or equivalent experience
Successful execution of product development programs with a strong preference for experience with moving mechanisms involving sensors and actuators
Basic understanding of design for injection molding is required
Clear understanding of sensors, actuators and support electronics
Excellent problem solver and excellent root cause analysis skills
Ability to grasp technical concepts as well as an understanding of manufacturing processes
Soft skills: Flexible with constantly changing requirements and demands. Self‑driven, motivated and takes initiative with limited support
Hands on skills: Application of basic manufacturing and assembly principles, soldering, ability to use basic power tools to build prototypes and Arduino programming to control actuators and sensors
Preferred software skills: CAD (Catia V5/V6 is a plus) / Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word), Matlab
Experience prototyping with Arduino to control sensors and actuators

Expected Compensation: $92,720 - $206,520 / annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
