A successful candidate will play an active role in the City of College Park’s existing operational success. The purpose of the position is to manage the Gateway Arena by running, maintaining, and servicing the facility and/or events by performing duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate of available guidelines and procedures, as well as interpret precedents. This position is responsible for establishing, developing, and implementing operational management systems for the Gateway Arena.

Responsibilities

Manage the capital budget for the Arena; being knowledgeable of all other expenditures in the Arena budget managed by other departments.

Directs, supervises, and schedules all aspects of Operations, including Engineering, Technical Services, Security, and Custodian Services.

Development of the business plan, including event calendar, activity schedules, sales and marketing activities and goals, service objections, and projections for attendance and/or revenue.

Develop facility partners such as tenants and promoters.

Partner with production companies, event promoters, and sports organizations to maintain quality programming for the Arena.

Lead a highly skilled quality team that establishes good relationships with promoters and key stakeholders within the sports/entertainment/film & TV industry to produce repeat business and multi-seasonal contracted sporting events.

Plans, directs, and manages business and operational goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for the arena.

Development of state-of-the-art service techniques with a goal of maximizing patron satisfaction, improving revenue, and controlling operating costs.

Plan, manage, and direct programming for the arena to maximize revenue while meeting the needs of diverse programming that meets the changing demographics of the region.

Collaborate with the Director of Security to oversee the operation of the security subcontractor for Arena to ensure all safety protocols of the City, as well as maintain compliance with requirements of the sporting league occupying the venue at that time, are followed, to ensure the safety of the clients, the athletes, the fans, and our staff in the building.

Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules, emergency procedures, safety, and Risk Management policies in compliance with all Corporate and governmental regulations.

Negotiates with vendors, unions, contractors, and/or service providers.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must have a proven track record of managing and leading a large-scale facility operation with a diverse workforce.

Knowledge of departmental and City operating policies, procedures, and rules.

Ability to work evening and weekend shifts as required.

Ability to supervise the work of subordinates and effectively and efficiently accomplish division objectives.

Thorough knowledge of contracts and other agreements related to the rental of the Gateway Arena.

Knowledge of laws and regulations about public assembly facilities, public safety rules and regulations, and building regulations.

Proven effective management of multiple related areas.

Proficient with Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel and Word.

Demonstrated sound organizational, coordinating, and personal interface skills.

Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to successfully communicate with the public, other employees, and vendors.

Must be flexible with working nights, weekends, and holidays.

Good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to motivate staff utilizing a positive attitude.

Knowledge of principles of budget preparation and control.

Ability to handle difficult customers.

Must be able to use tact and courtesy in dealing with the public.

Must be able to analyze and evaluate procedures and work processes and exercise appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and work methods.

Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships to deal effectively and courteously with others, and to work independently and in team settings.

Must be able to type or use a personal computer with word processing and related software, and to enter and retrieve information with reasonable speed and accuracy.

Effective analytical and decision-making skills.

Excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, and time management skills. Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse constituents.

Attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment are extremely important, as well as dependability.

Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, initiative, resourcefulness, and personal accountability.

Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average weight up to fifty (50) pounds, standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business management, sports management, marketing, public relations, business administration, hospitality, or other related field.

Minimum of 5-7 years of industry experience at a senior management level with a similar facility, preferably with a sports facility, convention center, or other multi-purpose public assembly facility; Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must possess a valid State of Georgia Driver’s license.

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Experience in communicating with diverse communities and in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.

Proficiency in MS Office Suite, as well as knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.

Extensive hours and weekends will be required at times.
