Senior Engineer - Embedded Computing
Join GE Vernova as a Senior Engineer – Embedded Computing and help drive the energy transition by architecting, implementing, and testing edge solutions for embedded systems.
Responsibilities
Work with GE Vernova businesses to transition edge computing, real‑time embedded controls, and embedded communication systems from lab demonstrations to fieldable prototypes.
Design, model, simulate, implement, and optimize real‑time critical embedded systems.
Collaborate with hardware suppliers and engineering tool providers to identify and select solutions for industrial and defense applications.
Partner with U.S. government agencies to shape winning proposals and lead projects that protect critical infrastructure.
Engage with universities, industrial consortiums, commercial partners, and others to advance the state of the art in embedded computing.
Publish technical papers, file patents, and contribute to open‑source communities.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related disciplines with a minimum of 7 years of industry experience, OR Master’s degree with a minimum of 10 years, OR Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 15 years.
Strong FPGA/SoC design and development experience with Verilog and VHDL.
Knowledge of Xilinx and/or Altera devices, tools, and ecosystem (e.g., ModelSim, Intel Quartus, Xilinx Vivado).
Experience developing real‑time embedded applications and systems on microcontrollers, FPGAs, x86, and/or ARM processors.
Experience with heterogeneous compute architectures and hardware acceleration techniques.
Strong embedded programming skills in C/C++/C#, Java, Python, MATLAB, etc.
Experience with Linux driver and/or Linux kernel development and Linux build systems (e.g., Yocto).

Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
Desired Characteristics
Proven track record of writing winning proposals with U.S. government agencies such as DOE, ARPA‑e, CESER, DOD, DARPA, etc.
Working knowledge of real‑time hypervisors (e.g., RTS, VxWorks) and containers (e.g., Docker).
Experience with real‑time operating systems (e.g., QNX, RTLinux).
Understanding of embedded system security requirements and cyber security techniques.
