Position Summary
Uses machines that utilize strong magnets and radio waves, instead of radiation, to create body images. Trained as a radiology technologist, works in the imaging department, and has specific training to perform complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the MRI department.
Job Summary and Responsibilities Responsibilities and duties are performed as outlined below.
Position Responsibilities
Responsible for enforcing magnetic field safety for MRI patients, operators and visitors.
Monitors the patient’s condition before and after the scan to ensure safety and comfort.
Explains testing procedures to patients ensuring they understand the exam.
Positions and instructs the patient about preparation for the MRI test.
Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy of the head, thorax and abdomen, physiology, and MRI terminology, practices and procedures.
Be familiar with specific MRI coding systems.
Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
Prepare equipment ensuring it is operational, safe and functioning according to diagnostic standards.
Problem solve equipment failure and imaging quality, contact service representative and CES regarding equipment problems.
Complete all quality checks and ensure that equipment logs are maintained.
Complete all clinical supply inventory, ensuring that each diagnostic room is complete with necessary supplies required to perform procedures.
Actively participate with patient exams, performing routine, urgent, and emergent patient requests.
Assist patients with basic clinical care.
Assist with patient scheduling when required.
Ensure that patient orientation, preparation/history and teaching is provided prior, during and following exam completion.
Review physician orders to verify the types of diagnostic exam requested and ensure the indication for the procedure is consistent.
Select specific equipment settings for the prescribed exam and modify the settings to ensure optimal image quality is obtained.
Complete the diagnostic exam according to specific departmental procedural protocols. Each exam has specific defined protocols.
Obtain assistance with any procedure which is not completed, or if there are any patient care issues.
Complete patient visit by ensuring that the exam is complete, the documentation has been processed including patient charges and the patient has been discharged safely.
Complete image processing, PACS QA, including the documentation of logs, demographic and diagnostic information required for departmental, hospital and patient record documentation.
Complete all image post-processing.
Job Requirements Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma (required)
Associate’s Degree in Healthcare field or Imaging Studies (preferred)
Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists – ARRT (R) at time of hire, then maintain as current (required)
ARMRIT (American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists) certification or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists – ARRT (MR) at time of hire or within 9 months of hire/transfer, then maintain as current (required)
Certified by the state of Texas – MRT within 9 months of hire/transfer (required)
BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (required)
Minimum Experience
Previous MRI experience preferred.
