Essential Responsibilities

Drive Thermal Innovation: Conceive and implement advanced cooling strategies for gas turbine elements, designing, fabricating, and testing sub‑scale mock‑ups, cooling passages, and full‑scale hardware.

Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team of GE product engineers, GE Aerospace Research team members, and external partners to invent and mature the next generation of power and thermal management technology.

Utilize your experience in modeling, simulation, and/or experimentation to characterize and validate thermal management methods.

Contribute to the development and writing of internal and external proposals.

Establish and grow an external network of collaborators in academia, government, and industry.

Patent your inventions and develop a record of publication via conferences and peer‑reviewed journals.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related discipline with 3 years of experience or Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related discipline with 6 years experience.

Fundamental knowledge in component heat transfer related disciplines such as heat transfer, fluid mechanics, mechanical design, electrical components.

Experience working in cross‑functional test and design teams in a lab or research setting.

Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.

Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required; no visa sponsorship will be provided.

Familiarity with turbine gas engines and their thermal control systems.

Willingness to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.

Desired Characteristics

6+ years of work experience in an industrial or laboratory setting.

Direct knowledge of propulsion applications, hybrid‑electric systems, electronics cooling, space power, or high‑speed flight vehicles.

Familiarity with additive manufacturing processes for heat‑transfer hardware and rapid prototyping techniques.

Experience with multi‑physics simulation tools for integrated thermal‑structural studies (ANSYS, COMSOL, Fluent, CFX, OpenFOAM, NPSS, MATLAB Simscape, MATLAB Simulink, Modelica, PROOSIS, GT‑Suite, or similar).

Knowledge of model verification and validation, model calibration, and uncertainty quantification.

Experience developing custom engineering models, data reduction and visualization in languages such as EES, MATLAB, Python, Fortran, C++.

Expertise in test execution: component level design, fabricating, testing, commissioning, and operation of fluid‑thermal systems and associated test enabling sub‑systems.

Experience with data acquisition hardware and software such as NI LabVIEW, DEWESoft, Cyres, and process PLCs.

Compensation & Benefits Base pay range: $90,000 – $175,000 USD annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. Eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of base salary. Posting expected to close on January 31st, 2026.
