Overview As a Radiologic Technician, you will provide diagnostic imaging of specific body parts for medical interpretation and treatment. You will work with radiographic equipment, perform quality control, ensure radiation safety, and collaborate with clinical staff. This role supports both inpatient and outpatient imaging services and helps advance patient care at Penn Medicine.
Responsibilities
Operate and maintain radiographic equipment, ensuring quality control and optimal image production.
Perform equipment operation, quality control, and automatic exposure control (AEC).
Use fluoroscopic units (digital and conventional) and computed radiography (CR) and direct digital radiography (DR).
Conduct radiation protection practices: minimize patient and personnel exposure, use shielding, and comply with federal/state regulations.
Produce and evaluate images, select technical factors, process digital/electronic images, archive images, and use PACS.
Position patients accurately for general and fluoroscopic procedures; adjust technical factors for anatomy and pathology.
Assist patient mobility: transport to and from equipment, drive X‑ray mobile units, and provide physical assistance.
Educate patients with knowledge of rights, ARRT ethics, infection control, and emergency protocols.
Manage contrast media and prepare rooms and materials for patients.
Operate radiology IT systems, including Misys CPR/RIS, PACS, and Microsoft Office Outlook.
Deliver quality work on time, follow deadlines, and prioritize tasks.
Take initiative and accountability, work independently, handle stressful situations, and accept constructive criticism.
Problem‑solve and communicate effectively with coworkers and other disciplines.
Participate in teamwork, maintain positive patient interactions, and support departmental initiatives.
Enhance knowledge and skills through required education, competencies, certifications, and departmental meetings.
Provide friendly, caring service: greet patients, listen actively, offer assistance, and resolve service issues empathetically.
Guard confidentiality by following HIPAA and institutional policies, securing patient information, and controlling access to records.
Maintain professional appearance, wear PHCS ID badge, and observe workplace cleanliness.
Comply with safety, accreditation, regulatory, and PHCS standards, including punctuality and disciplinary expectations.
Assist in education and training of radiography students.
Qualifications
American Registry Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) certification required.
Diagnostic Radiography NJ State license.
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) – required; BLS valid within six months of hire or prior to independent work.
Radiologic Technologist title required.
High school diploma (Vocational/Trade Diploma) required.
Preferred: Graduate of an allied health program with one year of hospital experience.
Education / Experience
Vocational/Trade Diploma (Required).
Graduate of an Allied Health Program, one year hospital experience preferred.
Benefits & Compensation Salary Range:
