Hours: Tuesday - Friday, 9p-6:30a
Facility: MVH
Position Summary Independently performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures and ultrasound directed interventional procedures utilizing proper techniques and protocols. Works under their scope of practice and in accordance with registry in the operation of equipment. Coordinates patient flow and the activities of the Ultrasound Department. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of duties in order to maintain equipment in good working condition. May perform procedures in other imaging modalities based on departmental needs. May have on call responsibilities.
Essential Duties & Functions
Performs US procedures of diagnostic quality as ordered by the referring physician and/or radiologist on patients of all ages according to established protocols and evaluates Ultrasound studies for technical image quality.
Obtains clinical history and data for correlation with the US procedure.
Performs daily and weekly QC as required.
Practices sterile technique as required.
Assists Radiologist in special procedures and in performing medical treatment during emergency situations.
Coordinates patient care with other areas in order to optimize patient time and satisfaction
Assesses learning needs and educates patients/families regarding procedures based on individual needs. Thoroughly educates patients about exam.
Ensures that all records, files and reports are properly recorded as required, performs clerical duties when necessary, verifies a signed physician order is received and corresponds with the billed procedure.
Maintains knowledge of the locations and operation of all emergency equipment in the unit.
Follows radiation safety policies and procedures.
Education Minimum Level of Education Required: Associate degree
Additional Requirements
Type of degree: Allied Health
Area of study or major: Ultrasonography
Preferred educational qualifications: Associate degree or graduate of an accredited program
Licensure/Certification/Registration
Credentialed in Ultrasound technology by one of the following (required):
American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
Sonographer by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
Vascular Credentialed by one of the following (required):
ARDMS- Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
CCI (RVS), Cardiovascular Credentialing International, Registered Vascular Specialist
Minimum of one additional registry in practiced specialties are required as approved by ARDMS: Abdomen, OB/GYN, muscular skeletal, Neurosonology, Breast
CPR Certification required within 30 days of hire
Experience Minimum Level of Experience Required: No prior job-related work experience
Preferred experience: 2 years of experience in Ultrasound
Knowledge/Skills
Proficient in performing diagnostic procedures and obtaining diagnostic images for physician interpretation
Proficient in Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
Proficient in Radiology Information System (RIS) and Image Storage
Advanced US applications
