Senior Database Reliability Engineer

BILL is building an innovative future of financial automation. We’re looking for a highly skilled Senior Database Reliability Engineer to join our Core Infrastructure Team. The team manages all infrastructure and databases, championing Infrastructure as Code, robust alerting, and real‑time performance monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

Architect, build, scale, and support high‑throughput data platforms underpinning mission‑critical business applications.

Collaborate cross‑functionally with engineering, product, and infrastructure teams to design resilient, fault‑tolerant, real‑time data pipelines.

Ensure data consistency and high performance at the database level, primarily with technologies such as Kafka and Flink.

Implement and maintain high‑availability, replication, CDC, disaster recovery, and multi‑region database deployments.

Apply Infrastructure as Code with Terraform and GitLab, following an SDLC approach.

Maintain monitoring and alerting via DataDog, Splunk, CloudWatch, and PagerDuty.

Troubleshoot complex platform issues across database, streaming, and infrastructure layers.

Contribute to ongoing improvements of tools, processes, and documentation.

Qualifications

5+ years of hands‑on experience with enterprise RDBMS (PostgreSQL, Aurora, MySQL, Oracle) with focus on optimization, security, and access control.

3+ years managing databases & CDC streaming services on AWS.

Experience with Apache/Confluent Kafka (brokers, partitions, offsets, Schema Registry, Connect) and running clusters at scale.

Familiarity with Flink pipelines (stateful streaming, checkpointing, windows, savepoints).

Strong experience designing fault‑tolerant data ingestion and streaming architectures.

Experience with replication tools like GoldenGate or Debezium.

Proficiency with Terraform, GitLab, and applying an SDLC approach to infrastructure.

Strong SQL and query optimization skills.

Deep knowledge of performance tuning, execution plans, indexing, partitioning, and concurrency.

Expertise in high availability, replication, CDC, disaster recovery, and multi‑region deployments.

Proficiency in Python and other programming languages.

Experience with monitoring and alerting tools such as DataDog, Splunk, and CloudWatch.

Knowledge of containers and cloud platforms (Kubernetes, ECS, AWS).

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Salary & Benefits San Jose, CA – $148,800 – $178,500 USD. Draper, UT – $126,500 – $151,700 USD. Eligible for bonus and equity plan.
