The Weitz Company is hiring a Senior Estimator to support our Denver, CO business unit.

The Senior Estimator is responsible for all preconstruction cost control functions for construction projects including complete estimates, cost analysis, comparisons, assisting with feasibility studies, and historical cost reports.

This individual is capable of performing cost control functions on multiple projects of varying complexity simultaneously.

What You’ll Do

Contact local building trades, subcontractors, suppliers, government offices, etc. to understand and verify local market conditions, trade practices, and costs

Utilize conceptual estimating skills and identify items required for complete systems, even if not outlined on construction documents

Understand the clients’ needs to manage the process efficiently, ensure timely completion, understand local logistics/subcontractor and supplier market, and how BIM/LEED/LEAN can be best utilized

Be accountable for estimate accuracy, risk analysis, consistency of data, and development/maintenance of historical cost data

Stay current on best practices, economic trends, technological innovations that impact construction estimation

Reduce the risk to The Weitz Company and the client by ensuring that all project estimates are subjected to the appropriate management review

Ensure excellent customer service is delivered on all projects

Review current standards and processes to identify areas for process improvement and implement a plan to make adjustments

Provide leadership and mentorship to team members

What We’re Looking For

Experience:

10+ years of experience in construction estimating - preferably with a General Contractor

Experience with conceptual estimating is required

Experience leading, developing, and mentoring a team is desired

Skills:

Excellent business acumen and judgment

Analytical with strong decision-making skills

Ability to think creatively and bring new ideas to the team

Desire to provide leadership and help employees develop professionally

Excellent verbal and written communication

Detail-oriented and highly organized

Excellent leadership skills and ability to build positive relationships across the organization

Skilled negotiator

Technology:

Experience with estimating and project management software

Proficient in basic computer software including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook

Ability to learn specific job-related software upon hire
