The Construction Manager is responsible for overseeing the field construction of small cell, fiber, and related telecommunications projects. This role manages day-to-day activities with contractors, ensures work is completed safely and correctly, and keeps projects on schedule and within budget. The position requires regular site visits and strong coordination with vendors, project managers, and customers.
Key Responsibilities Field & Construction Oversight
Conduct regular site visits, including pre-construction walks, in-progress inspections, and final punch/closeout walks.
Provide direction to contractors and ensure all work aligns with approved designs, construction standards, and safety guidelines.
Identify and resolve issues in the field to keep projects moving efficiently.
Participate in vendor selection and evaluate contractor performance.
Negotiate pricing within project scope and manage costs to stay within budget.
Hold vendors accountable for quality, timelines, and documentation.
Project Coordination
Attend internal and customer meetings as the construction subject matter expert.
Maintain accurate project updates and ensure all documentation, including permits, photos, test results, and closeout packages, is completed correctly and on time.
Track progress using project management tools and ensure data accuracy.
Safety & Quality Assurance
Act as the onsite safety observer to ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety requirements.
Ensure workmanship meets quality standards for small cell, fiber, and right-of-way (ROW) construction.
Required Experience & Skills Experience
Telecommunications, wireless, or fiber construction experience.
Knowledge of outside plant (OSP) construction, including aerial and underground fiber installation.
Experience with small cell and node construction in the public right-of-way.
Familiarity with RF sweep testing, OTDR, power meter, and PIM testing (understanding results; not necessarily performing them).
