Job Summary The Design I&C Engineer will revise calculations, perform modifications, act as a project stakeholder, update design and licensing basis information, and serve as an SME for uncertainty calculations. The role reports to the assigned supervisor and involves intermediate level engineering work activities and projects that require engineering knowledge to achieve safe, effective, efficient, and economical outcomes.

What You’ll Do

Technical Expertise – Possesses advanced knowledge and performs varied assignments with proficiency in applying theory and analytical techniques to solve diverse problems and complete extensive analyses. Understands the interrelationship between systems and component equipment and recommends enhancements to business processes.

Leadership and Guidance – Coordinates work activities of others within the group or department, performs routine engineering activity independently, and trains lower‑level employees.

Planning and Organizational Ability – Develops input necessary to forecast costs for routine projects and improvement requisitions.

Problem Solving and Initiative – Resolves and initiates solutions to moderately complex problems that require additional definition or clarification before analysis can begin.

Communication Skills – Helps coordinate the work of other engineers efficiently and effectively.

Interpersonal Skills – Leads aspects of team effort and leverages skills developed from company programs such as Power Up & Lead.

Decision Making – Makes decisions within established policies and procedures and analyzes options and risks to reach logical conclusions.

Business Awareness – Understands AEP’s structure, budgeting and approval processes, utility regulation, financing, and applies economic analysis techniques.

Qualifications – NUCLEAR ENGINEER / GRADE 06

Typically acquired 2+ years related engineering experience and a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program. A Master’s in an ABET‑accredited program may qualify for entry.

Acceptable alternative: Bachelor’s degree (non‑ABET) plus a Master’s or PhD from a university with an ABET‑accredited Bachelor’s program.

Qualifications – NUCLEAR ENGINEER (UPPER MIDLEVEL) / GRADE 07

Typically 4+ years related experience and a Bachelor’s in an ABET‑accredited program, or 2+ years related experience and a Master’s from an ABET‑accredited program. A PhD from an ABET‑accredited program may qualify.

Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged.

Acceptable alternative: Bachelor’s (non‑ABET) plus Master’s or PhD from an ABET‑accredited Bachelor’s program.

Qualifications – NUCLEAR ENGINEER, SR / GRADE 08

Typically 6+ years related experience and a Bachelor’s in an ABET‑accredited program, or 4+ years related experience and a Master’s or PhD from an ABET‑accredited program.

Registration as a PE in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged.

Acceptable alternative: Bachelor’s (non‑ABET) plus Master’s or PhD from an ABET‑accredited Bachelor’s program.

Qualifications – NUCLEAR ENGINEER, PRINC / GRADE 09

Typically 8+ years related experience and a Bachelor’s in an ABET‑accredited program, or 6+ years related experience and a Master’s or PhD from an ABET‑accredited program.

Registration as a PE in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is required unless waived by the organization’s EVP.

Acceptable alternative: Bachelor’s (non‑ABET) plus Master’s or PhD from an ABET‑accredited Bachelor’s program.

Must establish and maintain a permanent residence within a 45‑minute safe drive to the D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant.
