Pre-Production Manager
USAM DC is seeking a
Pre-Production Manager
responsible for overseeing the
Casework and Custom Engineering team . This role serves as a critical link between design, engineering, and production, ensuring that all projects transition smoothly from submittal to fabrication.
The Pre-Production Manager works closely with the
Engineering Manager, Project Managers, Engineers, Shop Production Manager , and
Fabrication Team
to ensure accuracy, consistency, efficiency, and quality throughout the pre-construction and production phases.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and support the casework and custom engineering team
Assign weekly engineering schedule based on company/project needs
Communicate daily with engineers and confirm progress on assignments
Document any questions or issues to completion of assigned work. Provide direction for timely solutions or redirect to necessary team for additional support
Review and approve production-ready drawings for the shop floor
Assist engineers and drafters with construction details to ensure efficient workflow through the shop
Collaborate with project managers to confirm design intent and constructability
Coordinate with shop personnel to resolve technical questions and streamline production
Maintain consistency in engineering standards and drawing quality
Support continuous improvement in engineering processes and fabrication methods
Communicate with Production and Project Management on projects and milestone dates
Oversee material takeoff process, optimization and procurement requisitions
Other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager
Supervisory Responsibility This position manages employees of the department and is responsible for performance, management, and hiring of the employees within that department.
Qualification Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field is preferred but not required
5 years’ experience in architectural millwork or similar wood product industry
Knowledge of Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) Standards
Familiarity with Microvellum Toolbox and Smartsheet
Able to read and interpret architectural drawings/blueprints
Excellent AutoCAD millwork drafting skills
Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including intermediate Excel skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skillsExperience with millwork production methods and fabrication techniques
Experience with CNC manufacturing
Experience with materials typical to the Architectural Millwork Industry
Familiarity with Federal and State Building Codes
