Position Summary:
The
Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)
assists in the planning, organization, development, and supervision of nursing services in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as facility policies. The ADON plays a key leadership role in ensuring quality resident care, supporting clinical staff, and maintaining regulatory compliance in collaboration with the Director of Nursing.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Staff Supervision
Support the DON in managing day-to-day clinical operations.
Supervise nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs), providing leadership and guidance.
Assist with hiring, orientation, training, and evaluation of nursing personnel.
Monitor staff performance and provide coaching, support, and discipline as needed.
Assist with staffing schedules and ensure adequate coverage on all shifts.
Resident Care & Clinical Oversight
Monitor resident care and ensure care plans are followed and updated as needed.
Conduct rounds to assess resident condition and quality of care.
Respond to changes in resident status and ensure timely physician and family communication.
Participate in admission, transfer, and discharge planning.
Oversee medication administration and clinical procedures for accuracy and safety.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance
Assist in preparing for surveys, inspections, and audits.
Help lead the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.
Ensure documentation and charting are complete and accurate.
Enforce compliance with infection control, safety, and resident rights standards.
Communication & Coordination
Serve as a liaison between nursing staff and administration.
Communicate effectively with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
Attend and participate in care plan meetings, department head meetings, and in-services.
Qualifications
Current RN license in the state of employment, in good standing
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; ADN with relevant experience acceptable
Minimum of 2–3 years of nursing experience in long‑term care, with leadership or supervisory experience preferred
Must be IP certified
Strong understanding of federal and state nursing home regulations (CMS, OBRA, etc.)
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
Proficient in electronic medical records (EMR) and documentation standards
Current CPR/BLS certification
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs
Frequent walking, standing, and physical activity throughout the facility
Ability to respond to emergencies at any time
Work Schedule
Typically Monday–Friday, with flexibility for weekends, holidays, and on‑call coverage as needed
