Sr. Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney Zurich North America is seeking a successful Sr. Workers’ Compensation Defense Trial Attorney to work out of our Pasadena, CA Staff Legal office. The position involves representing the Company in all phases of Workers’ Compensation litigation in Southern California. Responsibilities include working directly with claims professionals providing legal analysis and advice, preparing and filing legal pleadings and documents, performing legal research, preparing for and conducting pre‑hearing discovery, preparing for and handling final hearings before Workers’ Compensation Administrative Law Judges, and conducting post‑trial activities where appropriate.

This attorney will practice law in compliance with ethical standards established by state law, handling moderate to high exposure Workers’ Compensation cases from a challenging and varied caseload. Under limited direction, the attorney will work within broad limits and authority on complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge in breadth and/or depth in area of expertise.

The selected candidate should be able to report into Zurich’s Pasadena, CA Staff Legal Office one day a week.

Basic Qualifications

Juris Doctor and 7 or more years of experience in the Workers’ Compensation Litigation area

Member in good standing of the California State Bar Association

Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe, Lexis or Westlaw

Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims and the insurance defense litigation legal environment

Certified Workers Compensation Specialist designation desired

Compensation Proposed salary range: $160,000.00 – $185,000.00, with short‑term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%.

Location & Schedule Pasadena, CA (Hybrid – one day in office per week). Full time.
