Position Summary The Mammography Technician primarily performs screening and diagnostic breast imaging procedures. They may also be required to perform or assist in interventional breast procedures. Responsibilities include operational effectiveness in the breast imaging area, attention to patient flow, customer service, equipment oversight, and adherence to quality control guidelines.
The role collaborates with radiologists and clinicians to implement new procedures and processes that ensure seamless operations. The Technician maintains continuing education specific to breast imaging, contributes to and participates in work organization, training, and evaluation of staff, and demonstrates knowledge of radiation safety principles.
The Technician demonstrates competency in all breast imaging procedures through exams and follows radiology imaging protocols and policies. The role requires flexible hours, which may include evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, call, and overtime.
Proficiency with computers and new technology such as Picture Archival and Communication Systems (PACS), Digital Mammography, Radiology Information System (RIS), and Hospital Information System (HIS) is required.
Minimum Qualifications
Complete certification training program for Radiologic and Mammographic Technologist.
California Radiology Technologist of Mammography (CRT‑M).
BART or BLS at time of hire, with commitment to obtain BART within six (6) months of first hire date.
Demonstrated PACS, Digital Mammography, and computer knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications
At least one (1) year of experience as a Mammography Technologist.
Registered Technologist for Mammography issued by ARRT (R.T(M)(ARRT)).
Special Conditions
Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on‑call and locations based on the 24‑hour medical center's business needs.
Must be able to work flexible hours, which may include day, evenings, weekends, and some overtime if necessary for unexpected staffing issues.
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.
Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $144,845 – $144,845 (prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%).
Hourly Equivalent: $69.37 – $69.37.
Factors in determining appropriate compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that UC San Diego reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what UC San Diego anticipates to pay, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
