Job Description AECOM is seeking a highly talented Principal Geotechnical Dam Safety Engineer to join the East Region Dams Team. This position supports a variety of dam safety engineering projects across the East Region and reports to an AECOM office in the East Region, including Atlanta, Georgia; Buffalo, New York; Charlotte, North Carolina; Conshohocken, Pennsylvania; Germantown, Maryland; Franklin, Tennessee; or Tampa, Florida.
Responsibilities
Project management of multidisciplinary teams, engaging AECOM’s operations/finance teams for client management, contract management, planning, execution, and financial management of dam engineering projects.
Provide senior technical support, including seepage and slope stability analyses, filter and drain design, potential failure mode analyses, semi‑quantitative risk assessments, site inspection, construction observation, and regulatory compliance for hydraulic structures.
Perform quality reviews of engineered deliverables, such as design calculations, engineering reports, construction drawings, and technical specifications.
Estimate costs and project schedules.
Serve as Lead Verifier, ensuring quality control per AECOM Quality Control policies.
Mentor and develop junior staff, supervising and training in geotechnical analyses.
Act as Capture Manager for new opportunities, including business development pre‑positioning and proposal preparation.
Collaborate with technical leads across AECOM’s Dam Engineering Practice.
Client‑facing role with ownership of successful delivery and business development for new and existing clients.
Flexibility to travel for project work part‑time as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with geotechnical coursework; 10+ years of related experience or equivalent.
Licensed Professional Engineer in at least one state; ability to obtain reciprocity in additional states.
Relevant experience with dam projects, including rehabilitation and/or new design and construction.
Leadership experience of multidisciplinary teams.
Proficiency in geotechnical engineering software such as GeoStudio and gINT.
Valid U.S. driver’s license; must pass AECOM’s motor vehicle records review.
U.S. citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications
15 years of experience in dam or geotechnical engineering.
Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
Project experience with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or FERC.
Approved FERC Part 12 Independent Consultant.
Completion of Managing AECOM Projects training and attainment of AECOM Project Manager certification.
Additional Information
Relocation is not available for this position.

Occasional travel to project sites, both local and remote.
Compensation Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $150,000 to $180,000.
