The Cardiac Tissue Engineering Group, led by Dr. Manuel Mazo is looking for a candidate to carry out the doctoral thesis for the 26/27 academic year. Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death globally , and many of them lack effective treatment. The heart lacks sufficient capacity to repair itself after damage such as

myocardial infarction . At the same time, many treatments for other diseases can severely affect the functioning of this organ. Our

Cardiac Tissue Engineering research group

develops a highly multidisciplinary approach, using state-of-the-art strategies and technology such as

hiPSC stem cells ,

biomaterials or additive manufacturing

(3D printing and bioprinting). Our aim is to generate cardiac tissue at different scales in the laboratory. We also apply

genomic technology

to investigate ways to improve these bioartificial tissues, as well as to gain knowledge about the biology of the human heart in health and disease. The Cardiac Tissue Engineering Group, led by Dr. Manuel Mazo, is seeking for a creative, ambitious and highly motivated candidate to joint as a PhD student. The candidate will join a highly collaborative environment with the opportunity to apply cutting‑edge 3D printing and genomic technologies on the field of Biomedical Engineering. The work will be in permanent collaboration with an interactive international team of basic and translational. The candidate must have a University degree in Sciences (Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Biotechnology…) with at least 8/10 marks (For those studies outside of Spain, we would need the equivalent marks through https://universidades.sede.gob.es/pagina/index/directorio/Equivalencia_notas_medias/language/en ). Moreover, the candidate must be currently enrolled in a Master's program that grants access to doctoral studies, with a planned completion date of September/October 2026, or already completed in 2025. Knowledge on Computational Biology / Bioinformatics will be valued Include CV, motivational letter and University degree marks / equivalent marks.
