Role Senior Lead HW Project Engineer – Moog Space and Defense
Company Moog Inc. is a leading designer of spaceflight hardware and a part of the Spacecraft Avionics business unit in the Space & Defense Group. We partner with NASA to provide electronic solutions for Artemis Orion Crew Capsule, Viper Lunar Rover, Satellite Laser Communications Relay, OSIRIS-REX, and complete satellite buses for the defense department.
What We Do We develop custom spacecraft avionics projects, covering architecture definition, design & development, component procurement, manufacturing, testing, and product requirement verification. The project technical lead coordinates a cross‑functional team of electrical, mechanical, FPGA, software designers, test engineers, delivery technicians, and analysts to deliver successful projects on time and within budget.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science (required) or Master of Science (preferred) in Electrical Engineering.
7–10 years of experience leading electronic systems design (schematic/layout) and/or embedded microprocessor / FPGA / ASIC design with a proven project engineering track record.
Experience leading cross‑functional project teams, managing cost, schedule, risk, and technical execution through prototyping and manufacturing.
Experience authoring, managing, deriving, and verifying requirements for complex electronics systems. Familiarity with requirement databases such as IBM Rational DOORS, JAMA Connect, Siemens Polarion.
Proficiency with Microsoft Tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
Self‑starting with strong project ownership and the ability to work independently while proactively resolving technical challenges.
Excellent communication skills for internal and external stakeholders; confident public speaker.
Deep understanding of computer architecture and digital interface technologies.
Experience designing or specifying space‑based, radiation‑hardened electronic components is highly desired.
Ability to work onsite and serve as the primary point of contact during product testing campaigns.
Responsibilities
Lead as responsible engineer and technical point of contact for customers on design, development, and production of custom space electronics.
Provide effective project leadership to cross‑functional and cross‑site engineering teams; assign tasks and review work product for technical accuracy.
Manage budget, schedule, risk, and technical execution; actively manage scope creep.
Guide product requirements from stakeholders through development, including deriving design and test requirements, validating conceptual solutions, and coordinating verification activities.
Author and review engineering analyses and reports; ensure project data deliverables meet customer specifications and are delivered on time.
Author test procedures, assist in design verification testing, production hardware testing, and troubleshoot electronic failures to component level.
Resolve non‑conformance issues encountered during manufacturing and testing; lead Failure Review Board (FRB) meetings and champion Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) efforts.
Assign tasks and review the work of system engineering, product engineers, and other lead engineers; provide mentorship to junior engineers.
Salary Range Transparency Phoenix, AZ $115,000.00–$155,000.00 Annually
Salary Range Disclaimer The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in Phoenix, AZ. Actual salaries vary based on location, experience, and performance. The range is one component of Moog's total compensation package, which may include annual bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, paid time off policy, and region‑specific benefits.
