Description At Jefferson Center, we are committed to inclusive care. The Children's Crisis Stabilization Nurse will provide psychiatric nursing services and medication monitoring to children and youth in the Crisis Stabilization Unit. The position works evenings Sunday through Wednesday, 6pm-midnight (24 hours per week).
In this role, you will:
Oversee all medication processes and administer medications.
Collaborate with the Medical Director and Prescriber in medication management.
Identify physical problems and solutions.
Provide group and individual education on diagnoses and treatment.
Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required
RN (BSN preferred) with at least two years of experience in a behavioral health setting.
Experience with children/youth and families preferred.
Understanding of medical conditions relevant to behavioral health patients.
Basic trauma-informed approach and positive bedside manner.
Computer skills: email, EHR documentation, electronic prescribing, lab interface.
Current BLS and First Aid certification.
Certification in Nonviolent Crisis Prevention and Intervention Training (CPI).
Knowledge of psychiatric medications and their interactions.
Essential Duties
Collaborate with the Medical Director and team to determine admission appropriateness.
Complete needs assessments and document in EHR.
Perform physical exams on admission.
Coordinate psychiatric exams within 24 hours.
Implement prescriber orders and administer medications.
Coordinate prescription refills and lab orders.
Assist with discharge planning.
Provide medication education and address concerns.
Assist with milieu management and risk assessment.
Maintain compliance with regulations and submit medication occurrence reports.
Perform routine medical procedures.
Perform
EHR documented history, physical and mental assessments.
Individual patient and group education.
Medication documentation and administration.
Assist milieu staff.
Emergency procedures: CPR, First Aid, Narcan, Epi Pen, AED.
Evaluations for emergent or urgent needs:
Life‑threatening event
Acute suicidal or homicidal event
Acute psychiatric episode
Acute withdrawal syndrome
Coordinate
Primary care appointments and follow‑ups.
Prescription refills.
Communication of medication side effects.
All aspects of patient care with the treatment team.
Medication Management Oversight
Daily audits.
Implement medication protocols.
Monitor medication quantities.
OTC administration and reconciliation.
Maintain MAR and allergy documentation.
Submit medication occurrence reports.
Train QMAP staff.
Communicate
Explain care to patients.
Use respectful bedside manner.
De‑escalate acute situations.
Collaborate with program and medical leadership for patient care supervision.
Other Duties
Attend necessary trainings and in‑services.
Participate in supervision and meetings.
Coordinate internal and external medical and psychiatric care.
Volunteer for center committees and task forces.
Adapt to staffing needs and cross‑functional responsibilities.
Salary & Bonuses Salary Grade 15 (RN):
$32.36 / hr to $41.20 / hr.
CSU Nurse Bonus (0.6 FTE):
$1,500 at one month anniversary.
$1,500 at six month anniversary.
$1,500 at one year anniversary.
Additional bonus information is prorated for 24 hours/week and requires a minimum of 20 hours/week to be eligible.
