Essential Functions for a Charge Nurse:

Reviews the condition of residents with other nurses on the unit and communicates pertinent information to other staff members involved with resident care.

Updates 24 hour report. Keeps Unit Manager and Nursing Supervisor informed of resident changes.

Assists Unit Manager with admissions, data collection, and day to day supervision of unit staff.

Handles all situations with professionalism, tactfulness, politeness and is always courteous to residents, visitors, and co-workers.

Participates in meetings and committees are requested.

Maintains staff morale and promotes their working together as a unified group. Demonstrates kindness and concern for resident’s families and co-workers while demonstrating GHHCC’s mission, vision, and values. Act as a role model leading staff to success in providing quality care.

Evaluates nursing care of all residents per physician’s orders and in compliance with facility policies, procedures, and care plans. Assists as necessary with the following list, which is not considered to be all inclusive:

Medication administration.

Wound/Skin Care dressing changes/treatment applications.

GT/NGT feeding

Vaginal douches, enemas, suppositories

Suctioning and tracheostomy care.

Colostomy care and irrigations.

Foley catheter changes and irrigations.

Oxygen therapy, monitoring O2 Stats.

Assists in emergency situations.

Performs documentation in compliance with facility policies and procedures

Physical Requirements of a Charge Nurse:

Requires movement throughout entire facility.

Able to bend, lift, transport equipment and residents.

Charge Nurse Qualifications:

Must have valid REGISTERED NURSE (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) State License NY

Skilled Nursing Experience

required

2 years Dialysis experience

required

Weekend commitment is on call
