The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the most senior Air Force technical advisor and expert national/international authority in avionics technology and open system (OS) architecture with responsibility for providing advice and guidance to the highest Air Force and government officials.

Duties

Serves as a catalyst for creative thinking on the development of OS architectures and ensuring avionics modernization efforts are both cost effective and provide for the communication and information processing capacity that is essential for secure network‑based dominance.

Applies digital engineering concepts and tools to seamlessly integrate with weapon systems data requirements.

Collaborates with DoD laboratories and research entities to integrate cutting‑edge technology into acquisition programs and inject the latest avionics technology into sustainment programs.

Serves as a national/international consultant on system of systems avionics requirements, advising industry, professional associations, institutes, societies, and allies.

Provides technical expertise and guidance to develop, tailor, and apply OS architecture, 5G technology, avionics integration, digital tools for analysis and cybersecurity processes to AF weapon systems.

Guides multiple and major engineering studies and efforts, recommends changes in program directions and expenditure of funds; leads strategy development efforts for key enterprise avionics related issues e.g., Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT), 5G, Cybersecurity, Communications, etc.

U.S. Citizenship Required

PCS paid IAW JTR and AF Regulations. If authorized, PCS may require signing a CONUS agreement.

Males must be registered for Selective Service.

Position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP). Candidate must sign a Drug Testing letter and pass urinalysis testing prior to appointment.

Must have or be able to obtain a TOP SECRET/SCI Security clearance.

Must file an Executive Personnel Financial Disclosure Report.

Probationary period of 1 year.

Active Duty Military Members must indicate retirement eligibility.

Recruitment/Relocation Incentive may be offered.

Location Wright Patterson AFB, OH****

Salary – $161,128.00 – $207,500.00 per annum. Recruitment/Relocation Bonus and Moving Expenses may be authorized. This is a Senior Level (SL) Competitive Service position and is assigned a precedence priority code of DV-6 (equivalent to a Brigadier General) for protocol purposes.

Mandatory Technical Qualifications

Expert knowledge to develop, tailor, and apply avionics and open system architecture implementation and integration strategies for an organization’s weapon systems.

Ability to lead authoritative engineering reviews and evaluations to investigate complex open systems architecture and avionics system problems to ensure creative, innovative technical resolutions.

Education A professional engineering degree from an accredited institution is required. The curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first‑year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress‑strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR a combination of education and experience as required by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM). A master’s or advanced degree in electrical engineering/computer science/similar field is highly desired.
