Acute Care Surgeon – Intermountain Health

About This Role As an Acute Care Surgeon you will manage the full spectrum of emergency general surgery (EGS) conditions defined by the American College of Surgeons, including:
Acute abdomen/peritonitis
Soft tissue infections
Gallbladder disease
GI obstruction
Pancreatitis
Diverticular disease
Appendicitis
GI bleeding
Perforated peptic ulcer
Incarcerated hernia
Additional responsibilities include responding to trauma activations, supporting an EGS outpatient clinic, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and teaching medical students and residents. Preference is given to candidates with minimally invasive surgical skills or experience with spine exposure procedures; robotic platform access is robust. Schedule & Clinical Expectations
14 12‑hour restricted shifts on the EGS service per month
Telehealth: Provide EGS care via telehealth for our transfer center and sister facilities
Clinic: One day per week for post‑op and semi‑urgent follow‑ups
Elective Surgery: De‑emphasized but supported with OR block time
Call: Hospital‑based
Locations: Avenues Specialty Clinic and LDS Hospital

What You’ll Bring
MD or DO from an accredited medical or osteopathic school
Completion of a General Surgery residency
BC/BE General Surgery
Board certification in critical care not required
Active or eligible Utah medical license
3–5 years post‑training experience preferred
Experience in EGS or fellowship in Minimally Invasive or Acute Care Surgery preferred
Successful completion of Intermountain Health’s credentialing process
No visa sponsorship required
