Overview Pinnacle Treatment Centers is a leading provider of comprehensive addiction treatment services committed to transforming lives through compassionate care. This Counselor position plays a crucial role in supporting patients' recovery journeys using evidence‑based practices.

Key Responsibilities

Provide orientation to new patients, covering program rules, policies, and patients' rights.

Conduct intakes, discharge planning, initial assessments, and treatment plans in accordance with federal and state regulations, CARF, and Pinnacle policies.

Involve patients in assessment, treatment planning, and intervention, fostering a sense of ownership in their recovery.

Administer biopsychosocial assessments and update them continually.

Implement individualized treatment plans based on patients' strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences (SNAP).

Determine clinical necessity of counseling services through comprehensive assessment.

Monitor and document changes in patients’ circumstances, especially indicators of relapse for early intervention.

Comply with Medical Q.A. and Clinical Risk Management Policies, including high‑risk assessment and appropriate referrals.

Provide professional counseling and referral services—individual and group—as clinically necessary using techniques such as CBT and Motivational Interviewing.

Maintain accurate documentation in the EHR and schedule regular counseling sessions.

Engage in community relations, outreach, and research data collection when requested.

Attend training, case conferences, and team meetings as required.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Associate degree in a relevant field or majority of approved counselor certification courses (Kern County requires a bachelor’s or 75% of required courses).

Current registration/certification with a California Alcohol and Drug Program certifying body and proof of registration before providing services.

Experience: 0–2 years for Counselor I; 2–5 years or a master’s degree for Counselor II; master’s or higher and licensing or certification for Counselor III.

Preferred: Prior SUD counseling experience; Master’s or better in Psychology or related field.

Preferred Licenses/Certifications: SUDCC III, SUDCC II, SUDCC, LPC, ACSW, LCSW, LMFT, AMFT, CADC III, CADC II, CADC I.
