Senior Traffic Engineer (Hybrid Role - Houston, TX)
We are seeking an experienced
Traffic Engineer
with
10+ years of professional experience , a current
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas (or ability to transfer) , and a
PTOE (Professional Traffic Operations Engineer) certification . Ideal candidates will also hold relevant
TxDOT pre‑certifications
and have deep expertise in traffic/transportation engineering for critical infrastructure projects including highways, urban arterials, transit corridors, and intersections. This position will lead planning, analysis, design, and implementation of traffic operations and transportation systems with a focus on
safety, sustainability, and innovation . After an introductory period, this is a
hybrid role
based on project and team needs.
Base pay range $150,000.00/yr - $175,000.00/yr
Key Responsibilities
Help build and grow a best-in-class traffic engineering department in Houston.
Oversee development and application of traffic simulation models (e.g.,
Synchro, VISSIM, HCS ).
Manage project delivery: traffic operations, traffic analyses, traffic studies, traffic control plan design.
Serve as a technical expert and client liaison on complex transportation projects.
Mentor and develop junior staff, fostering collaboration and excellence.
Collaborate with business development teams to identify opportunities, prepare proposals, and win new work.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal transportation standards and guidelines.
Represent the firm at industry conferences, client meetings, and public forums.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field (Master's preferred).
Texas PE license required or ability to transfer.
PTOE certification required or ability to obtain.
10+ years of progressive design experience in traffic/transportation engineering.
Strong experience with TxDOT design standards.
Proficiency in Synchro, VISSIM, HCS, MicroStation/Civil 3D, and signal/ITS packages.
Strong project management, communication, leadership, and client-facing skills.
Willingness to work on-site as needed and ability to travel within Texas.
Salary $150,000 - $175,000
