Pay Range: $98,397 – $122,997 per year.

Position Summary KIND seeks a Managing Attorney in Baltimore to assist in the management of legal services to children and families affected by family separation and other emerging legal and policy changes affecting migrant children. The Managing Attorney will provide direct representation, pro‑bono mentoring, and strategic legal counsel and program planning and implementation in a cutting‑edge area of humanitarian immigration work on behalf of highly vulnerable children. The incumbent will also supervise Staff Attorneys, Senior Paralegals, Paralegals, and program staff, reporting to the Managing Director, Baltimore.

Essential Functions

Supervise and lead program staff in the relevant jurisdiction(s), in consultation with the Managing Director.

Provide program oversight, direct representation, pro‑bono placements and supervise casework, manage caseloads, conduct performance evaluations, and ensure high‑quality legal work.

Plan and implement recruitment, mentoring, and case placement strategies to increase pro‑bono representation of unaccompanied immigrant children.

Develop pro‑bono training resources and local training curriculum, including sample filings and guidance packets, and assist with local KIND training for staff and external partners.

Offer mentoring to KIND pro‑bono attorneys and direct legal representation to KIND clients, including legal research, strategy formulation, client interviews, court appearances, and filing pleadings.

Provide legal skills training to in‑house staff, pro‑bono attorneys, and stakeholders, in coordination with KIND’s Training and Technical Assistance Team.

Support the Managing Director in developing and implementing strategies to meet programmatic and funding deliverables, including staff recruitment, employee engagement, and quality control.

Ensure mid‑level supervisors are equipped to supervise and coach their direct reports.

Oversee data management, ensuring data integrity through regular case audits and technical fluency with KIND’s case management systems.

Lead and manage large and complex programs, oversee grant reports, metrics, and assist in drafting funding proposals.

Maintain internal and external stakeholder relations, participate in local coalitions supporting unaccompanied immigrant children.

Collaborate with other KIND departments on specific projects and initiatives, including Policy, Advocacy, Communications, and International.

Participate in and lead local and national KIND meetings, committees, retreats, and events.

Qualifications And Requirements

J.D. and admission to the state bar.

Fluency in English and Spanish.

Minimum of 6 years of experience practicing immigration law, including humanitarian claims such as asylum, SIJS, U visas, and T visas.

Minimum of 4 years of experience working with children, preferably immigrant and refugee children, or survivors of abuse or human trafficking.

Experience working with law firm attorneys and/or other legal volunteers.

Minimum of 3 years of experience supervising attorneys and non‑attorney staff.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in program management, including project management, deliverable tracking, hiring, planning, and development.

Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a released setting, if applicable.

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to work collaboratively and multi‑task in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.

Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks and delegate appropriately.

Commitment to practicing and supporting wellbeing and a work‑home balance.

Experience communicating in a remote environment preferred but not required.
