Job Description The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications for a tenure‑track (TT) faculty position at the assistant professor level in the area of artificial intelligence (AI) in civil and environmental engineering infrastructure systems. This position is part of a broader expansion in AI engineering in the College and will focus on AI applications across structural, transportation, geotechnical, and environmental engineering. Scholars working across disciplines are encouraged to apply as long as they are dedicated to addressing challenges in the built or natural environment.

Responsibilities

Teach existing graduate and undergraduate courses in civil and environmental engineering and develop creative new curricula in areas of expertise.

Conduct research in AI related to civil and environmental infrastructure systems, building an externally funded research program.

Maintain an internationally recognized scholarly presence through publications, grant funding, and collaboration.

Serve the department, college, and university in teaching, research, and service activities.

Champion public impact, inclusive innovation, and social responsibility in research and teaching.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering or a closely related field, or anticipated such a degree by the start date.

Evidence of potential for scholarly excellence and an externally funded research program.

Demonstrated teaching competence and commitment to educational excellence.

Capacity to work effectively in a diverse faculty and student community.

Salary Range Base salary:

$79,350.00/yr – $124,722.00/yr. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

A research statement (maximum 2 pages) describing past research, future vision, scholarship type, dissemination, funding expectations, and potential collaborations.

Contact information for three professional references (name, title, email, institution). References will not be contacted until the second phase of the search.

Process

Minimally qualified pool will be identified by mid‑January 2026.

Long‑list candidates will be interviewed via video conference; those invited will receive email invitations at least one week in advance.

For long‑list candidates, references will be contacted and candidates may submit 1–2 representative scholarly works.

Shortlist candidates will be interviewed on campus, anticipated in February and March.
