Gift Processing Associate
Position: Full‑time on‑site position located in Needham, MA (10 miles outside of Boston). You must be able to commute to Needham.
Salary range: $50,000 – $60,000. This is an hourly non‑exempt position.
Organization Overview Mustard Seed Communities (MSC) is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to caring for the most vulnerable populations throughout Jamaica, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Zimbabwe, and Malawi. Founded in 1978, MSC provides loving and lifelong care to over 600 children and adults with disabilities, children affected by HIV, and young mothers in crisis. In addition, MSC manages sustainable agriculture initiatives and provides education, nutrition, and vocational training to marginalized communities. MSC is a faith‑based organization inspired by the healing and caring ministry of Jesus. MSC has an annual budget of over $8 million and is growing steadily with a committed base of donors throughout the United States.

Position Overview Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, the Gift Processing Associate is responsible for gift entry and gift acknowledgment processes for the entire organization. The position requires an individual who is highly organized, detail‑oriented, eager to learn, and skilled at working with a complex Raiser’s Edge NXT database and its accompanying policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
Process daily imports of donor gifts with efficiency, consistency, and accuracy of both gift coding and donor biographical data.
Accurately capture donor intent in processing gifts by maintaining a thorough understanding of all appeals, funds, and gift types including multi‑year and annual pledges, matching gifts, tribute gifts, online, wire and stock transactions, and in‑kind donations.
Deposit donor checks using remote scanner and process credit card transactions.
Create and send timely donor acknowledgements, tax receipts, and tribute cards.
Support staff in the creation of financial, mailing, and constituent reports as requested; support staff with queries and reporting as requested.
Work closely with development colleagues to maintain the integrity and security of the Blackbaud CRM database through routine maintenance, including updating donor contact preferences, return address corrections, merging duplicate records, and periodic audits of records.
Run database screenings to update addresses and wealth ratings.
Import fundraising solicitor assignments and proposals/opportunities.
Assist MSC supporters with donation or data issues.
Respond to requests regarding donor recognition and giving history.
Collaborate with the Director of Finance and Administration on creating, updating, and maintaining standard operating procedures for all data processing related tasks.
Process the transfer of data between Blackbaud’s Luminate Online and Raiser’s Edge NXT using the Omatic Connector.
Collaborate with the Director of Finance and Administration and the Director of Communications and Digital Engagement to troubleshoot technical issues with data or database functionality; assist with implementing enhancements to the database system.
File and maintain physical and digital backup of gifts and pledges applying knowledge of document retention requirements and security standards.
Coordinate with the Director of Finance and Administration regarding monthly close financial reconciliations and annual audit preparation.
Submit documentation to verify and secure matching gift opportunities.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with donors, volunteers, vendors, and international MSC staff.
Qualifications
Dedication to MSC’s mission.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2+ years’ experience working with a donor management system; experience with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge NXT and Omatic strongly preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively across teams.
Highly organized with ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record keeping.
Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive donor information with discretion.
Self‑motivated, reliable, intellectually curious and eager to learn new systems and processes.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and comfort learning new software applications.
