Summary As a Principal Software Engineer (Java, Low‑Latency System) you will be a key contributor on a team advancing mission‑critical systems. You’ll work closely with industry experts, deepen your technical expertise, and deliver complex, high‑performance systems used globally.

Responsibilities Kforce’s client, a growing and innovative firm located in Jersey City, NJ, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer (Java, Low‑Latency System) to join a high‑talented engineering team and help design and build next‑generation low‑latency solutions in an innovation‑driven environment. This role is a Hybrid work model.

Greenfield Development: Design and build sophisticated, global low‑latency systems

Ultra‑Low‑Latency Messaging: Engineer high‑volume, ultra‑low‑latency messaging pipelines

High‑Performance Distributed Systems: Design and implement secure, scalable cloud‑based services, distributed platforms, and APIs that serve as the backbone of latency‑sensitive applications

Agile Software Engineering: Participate in full‑lifecycle Java development within an Agile environment, leveraging event‑driven technologies to power real‑time applications

Requirements

8 years of professional software engineering experience, with deep expertise in Java and building high‑performance, low‑latency systems

Proven experience in building distributed systems in high‑frequency environments

Hands‑on experience with cloud‑native services, microservices, and scalable distributed platforms

Experience working in Agile environments, collaborating cross‑functionally with teams

Strong knowledge of low‑latency messaging technologies (e.g., Kafka, Aeron, Chronicle Queue, ZeroMQ) and experience optimizing throughput, concurrency, and microsecond‑level performance

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
